WSID wed 2-2-11
I will be at Western Sydney dragway tomorrow night with my circut car testing a new engine . I have assembled a 2443cc engine specifically for the
Portland weekend in a couple of weeks time and will give it a run to see how it will go . This engine is based on an original ARPM case , 88mm flanged
crank , 5.7" Carrillo rods , JE pistons , AA long barrels , Fk 87 cam with Autocraft 1.4 rockers , Autocraft Pro heads with 48 x 38 titanium valves
and 14.27 compression . I have a set of 48mm IDA carbs with 42mm venturies , 180 mains , 205 airs and 60 idle jets . I have a Scat 1 3/4" ceramic
header with a fatboy muffler for the street meet only because of noise restrictions . This engine was dyno'd last week with 198 HP and 311 ft/lb's
at the wheels . I will try to put the car on the scales , but should be around 1900 lb's with me . I will try to up-date at the track if time allows
, ROD.

Howd you go ???
car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again.

Ritchie , good to see you are freezing while we are sweating . Ian , all went well sort of .
I had a good night at WSID and with the high temps in Sydney the track was very sticky . The first run was just a shakedown to run the car , and with
20 psi in the tyres , 6000 rpm on the 2 step , 1.62 60ft , 8.0 @ 89.22 1/2 track and 12.42 @ 110.31 at the end with a missed shift into 2nd .
All good so 2nd run with 18 psi in the tyres , 6000 rpm on the 2 step , 1.67 60ft , 7.59 @ 91.82 1/2 track and 11.92 @ 112.46 .
On the 3rd run I lowered the tyres again to 16 psi , 6000 rpm on the 2 step , 1.68 60ft , 7.56 @ 92.59 1/2 track and 11.87 @ 112.68 .
4th run I left the tyres @ 16 psi , and lifted the 2 step to 7000 on the launch to try to stop the car from bogging on the line , 1.65 60 ft , 7.88 @
88.62 1/2 track and 12.28 @ 111.17 with a missed shift into 2nd again .
5th and last run I left the tyres @ 16 psi , lifted the 2 step to 7500 rpm and with no burnout , launched the car to have it drive all over the lane
for about the first 60 feet . I drove it slowly back to the pits and I suspect I have either broken the welded diff or perhaps a CV joint . I am happy
with the outcome and will now remove the box for an inspection and possible replace the diff with a new aluminium spool . The car weighed in @ 715 kg
or 1820 lb/s with the driver on the startline and I have fitted some 8" hoosier slicks . I have a 3.1 first gear with the 3.88 R&P and I dont
quite have the power to make the car launch well . I am looking forward to the Portland Weekend in 2 weeks time , ROD.
