Reduction Box conversions


Handycam asked me if I had pics of my set up so I thought it'd be good to share with everyone.

My Baja is running a CB rear end.......

A mate is building a Baja notch and he also wanted reduction boxes, as CB gear is pretty thin on the ground. I decided to be a bit creative.......

We used late type3 (IRS) torsion bars and double spring plates,
I then 3D modelled the Splitty spring plate and Short IRS spring plate in there defult position and designed an adaptor that would go from one to the other maintaining the right angle for the splitty box and hopefully clear the shock mount.
The llaser cut plates seem to be perfect, I'll still need to Design a spacer between the plate and hub.
Hopefully this helps a bit Cam.

Did you not keep the CB torsion bars and spring plates? What have you done up front with the spindles?

The Notchback is getting a Splitty gear box not CB, the set up is completely different.
Up front it's been raised two splines.

thanks mate ive never seen the country buggy set up thats what i was interested in" looking at idears for my baja as its only for fishing ect not hard core ????

Has anybody ever seen or heard of reduction boxes being coupled with an IRS rear ??
I was considering tackling this option with the 2wd suby box that I have and an EJ22
Obviously there will be some nutting out to do and some crafty machining work but
I think the theory has merit as you could have maximum suspension travel as well as the instant 3" lift
Also would be able to run the suby box without installing reverse cut gearing
tell me what you think

I'm not to sure but I don't think that the redux boxes/gears will handle the power of a subie engine. They were designed for underpowered 1200s in Kombis, even the Country Buggy only had a 1300 as its largest engine.

But don't let that stop you!! I would love to see it done!!

We've got a few off-road dubs in the build at the moment, would be cool to take a trip north and maybe catch a show or two along the way.

I've been changing a few things on the Baja since those pics were taken......

I had a set of reduction hubs in the rear of a kombi setup for Irs rear. Was a great conversion possibly done by John ALder. I did find with the power of transplante3d motor it had in it, it caused the rear of the kombi to become extremely loose and through out throttle application you had to apply very gently. I have removed this setup and return to a stock rear as want to make this car more of a every day drive. I do have this conversion up for sale.

My folks crossed the Simpson East to West in the baja in 2000, They had an absolut ball, the baja was pretty well set up too, 170Lt Fuel, 80Lt Water tank, Dual batteries, Engle fridge etc etc.

I'll try too dig up some pics.

There was an 80lt water tank where the rear seat base would have been, and the 130Lt tank was a square truck side tank the fitted between the wheel arches in the back parcel shelf area.

Nice write up.
I have everything for the conversion just looking for ideas on adapters for the reduction boxes.

I have a splitty gearbox axles reduction hubs straight out of my 62 if anyone would like to purchase.
