Cold Running Problems
Have a 71 Superbug 1776cc mild cam heated manifold (electric) 34 Pict carb (12 months old).
Starts first time then it runs rough, backfires, won't idle and boggs down at low revs, this all happens when cold. Once it warms up it runs
fine with the exception of a mild flat spot at low revs, probably caused by the 009 dizzy.
It has new points, plugs and coil and is timmed using a light to 32deg at 2500rpm's.
It seems to be getting to much fuel, it blows out fuel smoke when cold.
Where should I start, can I adjust the choke so it is not on as long. I have noticed if I run it until the choke turns off then leave the car for a
minute or two the choke comes on again and takes a similiar length of time to go off to when it was stone cold. |

I would adjust the choke right off for starts, take that out of the possible prob list. Then start it with a couple of pumps of throttle and hold
your foot to keep it idling until a bit warm.
Check that your accelerator pump is pumping, and richen it up to help it accelerate out of the flat spot and jet it to a 150 or so and it should
remove the flat spot. A svda dizzy will make your world a much better place with smoother driving and you wont need to do the 'blip' before
you take off to get the engine to pick up.
Do a google search for Boston Bob and 009 and check his info on 009 / 34pict combo tuning
kool karma with you! |

Thanks I will adjust the choke first. Which way do I turn it for off, and how far to turn it completely off. I notice there are three marks close
together mine is on the middle mark and has not been moved. The carb is twelve months old. |
