If you add the numbers up on the door, they equal 7. So this must be the car that rolled before Number 8, that rolled at the last Nationals (GM).

Pic #1 - The Front and Rear screens have already popped and the roof compressed- so a lot had already happened before the camera caught the action.
Pic #4 gives a grainy worms eye view of the swing axles, doing their thing when not aided by a Transverse Leaf/Camber Compensator/Regulator. The shiney bands, half way along the swing axles would probably be attachments for a narrow 'over the top' Sway Bar - but as can be seen by the rear camber, not effective on a Swing Axle as they can be on an IRS.

Odd looking hard stone guards behind the front tyres, could give the clue that this car may have been set-up for off-road rally work - but here operating on the extremely fast Nürburgring.

Pic #8 - 'Can't believe how cool the driver looks after that horror. Maybe thinking "I'll never find that damn squeak now!"

Mein Gott, the silence is deafening! "Car Number eight where are you?"

You're right about the way the rear suspension is set up, Lance. I thought that they were 'limiting straps' on the axle tubes - either way, horrible! He didn't need a rear drum failure to set that off. Those 356 drums seem to have stood up OK......that's what is on No.8 Beetle now.

Anyhow, I'll be there [with No.8 Beetle] for the Nationals Supersprint.:tu:

Cheers, Greg

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!
