Jacking points and axle stands
I know there are jacking points on either side of a bug just in front of the rear guards for use with the factory issue jack, but where would be the
best places to jack using a trolley jack, and where would the best place to locate axle stands once the car is up?

You can put a trolley jack right in under the tunnel is the strongest points, and at the front straight under the middle of the beam on the framehead.
As for axle stands, under the rear torsion tube on either side, and under the front beam at either side.

Don't use the gearbox to jack it up, use the point of the floor pan tunnel just in front of the gearbox.
And as Smiley said re the stands.

When sliding the trolley jack under from behind the car, I like to use the rear gearbox mount at the back, it sticks out as a nice flat (usually
shiny) bit of steel between the gearbox and engine. From the sides, I use the rear torsion bar tubes, which are also ideal locations for axle stands.
At the front, I use the axle beam, or on a Superbug any part of the framehead.

Hi
I always use the front torsion bar tubes to lift the front in the centre and put axle/jack stands either side...
on the rear I usually jack the rear up using the engine/gearbox mounts cross member to jack the car up
and then place axle/jack stands under the torsion bars
don't place the jack under the engine or gearbox...
LEE
PS: the jacking points are really only for the VW jack in emergencies...

I don't use the rear gearbox mount crossmember anymore. I used to all the time cause it stuck down and was convenient, but then I had one bend in
half on my semi-auto and rip both rear gearbox mounts.
So I would suggest that no one jack on the crossmember or put axle stands under it. As Camo said above coming under from the back of the car the best
place is the tunnel just in front of the gearbox.

And I would suggest not to jack on the floorpan tunnel as it bends the pan, on all but the very late beetle, use the front trans mount, on a late
mount, use some hard wood to span the front of the trans forks. Stands are obvious, torsion housings front and rear.

As matberry suggests I often use a chunk of wooden sleeper about the size of an A4 piece of paper on top of my jack which spans the frame horns and
bears on the rear gearbox mount. This gives me a handy extra bit of height as well.

Hi
If your car is as low as mine are, I start of with the jack under the factory jack points and the lift one side at time. I put the stand on the
torsion bar tube close to the outside.
