Beam Adjuster How to's?
Hi All
Trying to find a "How To" for welding in beam adjusters. I'm not sure where I read it. It was quite thorough in every step.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction to find it again?
BTW have searched this forum but the one I found isn't it.

Simple.
1. mark beam where adjusters go (how wide to cut). remoe torsion leaves.
scribe either side of original grub so that they can be used to line up new adjuster.
3. cut top beam
take out cut section replace with new adjuster
re-insert the torsion leaves and re assemble trailing arms.
set adjuster to highest setting and hold in position where you scribed the original grub. That way you can get back to stock ish height.
4. weld into place
5 do the same to bottom job done.
I used some exhaust tubing on mine to locat the adjuster in a paralel sleeve arangement.

Yep understand all that...........The How To had pics with more info on rebuilding the whole beam also....with mods.
Maybe on a different forum just thinking someone might have seen it.

you do realise that by cutting your beam and welding in a new centre section for adjustment it will no longer be strong or legal?

Yep...........Not much we do with(some) mods is truelly legal but what they don't know won't hurt them
Thinking of sleeveing to the adjuster for more strength......

Just on a related subject...im 99% sure the beetle i bought has these adjusters on the front beam where can i find the process to adjusting the front beam? I think i still want drop spindles though as the suspension
is pretty stiff...

Cutting the beam to fit adjusters is not legal in Victoria, however as I understand it, Avis adjusters are legal as you don't have to cut the beam.

it can take quite a while after experimenting with shock absorbers and the top & bottom adjusters...
have the lower torsion bar adjusted where You want the front wheels at... then by adjusting the top torsion bar You can get a nice soft suspension...
and harden it by adjusting the top one
hard shocks oil can be too hard... gas too hard...
If You want dropped spindles the avus type are excellent...

Seems to be a bit of confusion here. Avis adjusters are not dropped spindles, they are adjusters that are fitted to the centre of the beam without
having to cut the beam right through. I believe they were originally developed for Porsche 356's. Got mine from Gene Berg.
