Tyres and droped spindles

just wondering what tyre size would work on my bug with out narrowing the beam. At presant it has 175/60/15 perfomace mags ( they will be changed when the respray happens) and it has a 2 and a half droped spindles.

its not bad when its just me in the car with only heavy cornering before it rubs on the guards. When i have one of the kids its shocking and two its bloody awfull!!! now i know that a 2 inch narrowed beam will fix this but i dont want to go this route if i can help it.. I have never had droped spindles before when lowering only beam adjusters which made it rock solid when droped and as u have no suspension movment its wasnt an issue

cheers..

I have 195's on mine, which rub when hard cornering like yours. You will need to keep an eye on the offset of your new rims.

Mine is a balljoint front end running CB performance spindles, with 15 x 6"cookie cutters with an offset of 35mm.

a Bigger offset will mean less rub on the lip of the guards, but could mean more rub on the inner bodywork or suspension &/or reduced steering lock.

Cheers
Brendan

I had the same problem, the thing is if you have dropped spindles it increase the front track by just over an inch and if you have front discs that increases it more, I run 185/65/15 on mine with Empi 8's and the only way to stop rub was to narrow the front beam by 2" to stop this, only problem I have found is getting the car rego'ed in QLD as I was told narrowed front beam and dropped spindles is illegal ! so I am screwed as I don't have another beam or standard spindles :(

Yep I am afraid you will need to install a narrowed beam. I went with 175/65/15 and the tyres rubbed around corners or when i hit a pot hole, car is much better now I have a 2 inch narrowed beam.

The rears are 195/65/15
