Oil Temp Gauge

i have an oil temp gauge that has never worked, earthed the cable at the sender end and it causes the gauge needle to swing to the other end of the gauge so I assumed that the sender is faulty, bought a new sender and still no go, it is in a buggy, any clues?
Thanks
Don

The gauge and the sender need to be matched, the sender normally has its range stamped on it.

Where have you got the sender mounted?

If it's in the sump plate it probably works fine, they just don't get much of a reading there.
When I tried one there in winter after 20 mins driving the needle still hadn't moved.

where is Your sender Don..?
Mine is in the type 3 dipstick plate... Works great..
needle doesn't move until I get out of town on the highway usually... in this weather its around 80C using either gauge
150C or the 120C... lol

remember the oil relief valve doesn't open until the oil gets HOT...
I have a different problem.. oil pressure gauge and sender...
and have use different senders... always full scale...
I'm going to bench test them, and see what happens...

cheers

LEE

The wench has a droped sump with external oil filter, the sensor is at the back of the sump near the filter, oil temp did not move at all on the mid winter wander yesterday.
