So Got it home last night and pulled all the Parts out of, car seems to have all the major panels and some spare ones, (and a boot lid off a notchback
lol)
Mind you the car is missing the motor and gearbox/running gear.
Surprisingly all the floors are REALLY good
And... i was interested to see what the other wheels off my WRX would look on it lol and mmm what a lovely quarter that is, the bog just popped right
off the bare metal lol

This is what im looking to build the car into, just not that color, im thinking matt black and much lower lol.
On another note, anyone know if the 1.6lt Passat motor and Gear/box running gear will bolt up into the car? i have been offered the motor and gearbox
as a swap for 1600 vw motor.
Any input would be great.

i reckon matt black is so played out and often poorly done - what about matt blue, red, green or orange...?
but otherwise looks like a really solid start point, and at that price ya can't go wrong
look forward to seeing how it shapes up....!

@ type3disease
Think you might be onto somthing there.. Matt Red may be a better opton for me as the original color of the car was red.
Might go Matt Red body and white roof and red/white seats.
mmm more things to think about now

oops sorry 'bout that...
was trying to work out the original colour so much red etc under the guards and in the windows, but a lot of work for someone to have painted the dash
etc white....
its your car man - please don't take my opinion on board... but a cool combo for sure...
I'm doing a late wagon (as a panelvan) with that sort of combo... its also a factory red car so although I keep looking at other options the classic
red n white keeps coming back to me...
what State are you in - be cool to get some pics together if we both go that way...
sing out if ya need anything for it - I don't have a spare eng or box but might have some other bits n bobs laying round if ya missing anything...
did have a full set of side glass but think I mighta chucked it - oops -
man that dash looks good...

i would assume a lot of work to fit a front mounted water cooled engine into the rear of an air cooled car...!
but someone will correct me if I'm wrong....
plenty of other engines going into the back of vee dubs these days...!
plenty of guys around Ballarat and Bendigo and all through melbs that I'm sure will be able to give you a hand when the time comes...
sing out when ya chuck a list of parts together and I'll see what I can help with...!

Oh.....
I was under the assumption that the old 1973 Volkswagen Passat (B1) was also a Air Cooled motor :S, tried looking it up but google is not being
helpful and none of the wiki's for sate id its Air or water cooled :S, might need to start in another direction for a motor and rear running gear

not just water cooled, but also front wheel drive on the passat. Why not just get the original aircooled automatic set-up, will be much cheaper and
easier than trying to do a conversion.
Like Ben, I have some late model Type 3 stuff and live nearby, when you know what you need call out

Had a busy day today!
Cleaned up the floorpan in the car, VERY pleased no rust holes, looks like the battery spot has already been repaired once before and only had a bit
of surface crap on it =).
Passenger Side Front and Rear pans had surface crap on them as well, steel brushed them and Treated them with a rust killer/primer, will paint them up
with Sound Deadening stuff tomorrow and throw a pic up.
Also did the rear cargo section with thick Protectant and sound deadening.
Cleaned up the hood liner aslwell (it didnt get any better and is all stained and drity) went and bought a can of white VHT Vinyl Spray and ill spray
it one night this week, did a mates HX ute seats and dash with this stuff almost a year ago and its still holding up so i thought should be right for
a hood liner =).
Also Removed both the rear quarters and started Repairing one of them

A passat motor would be a struggle to fit due to height. I have seen type 4 (VW, air cooled) and subaru motors (flat 4 water cooled) installed, but
again the hight is an issue if you want it hidden under original panels. Depending on what your after rotary is a nice fit, add a turbo if you want to
fly. Just remember to make it stop and turn if your generating decent power.
I have seen various ideas for the raiator, where the spare wheel is can be done, but a lot of work to duct it correctly and run lines to the back.
If your not after silly HP there are a lot of re-build options for the stock motors, add decent carbs, ignition, exhaust and it makes a huge
difference over stock.
Most of all, have fun!!!

Yea Andy have decided to give the passat motor the scrap and am now just looking for a original motor/auto box and running gear.
Id did look at putting a EJ20 into it as i am a big fan of the Suby motors (i have a 1998 WRX Sports Wagon with 200kw @A4W) it may happen one day but
for now i just i just want to get it done and running so i can have a neat weekend cruser =)

Looks like someone has grabbed the factory tacho or clock, whatever was there, I think I have some early gauges if your looking.
Looks like some serious work there, the engine and box bit is a piece of piss, yell out if you need any type 3 stuff, starting to offload some of the
stuff I dont need anymore thanks to my Beetle being the focus now

Front/Rear bumpers
Front Indicator assembly's
Rear Tail light Assembly's
Wipers
Both Sunvisors
Head Lights (will most likely buy new ones)
That Tacho/Clock (Was unsure what went in there lol)
i think thats all i need to try and find unless somthing else pops up unsure yet.
Oh i also got a flatop motor with a manual gear box on the way, possibly looking to swap the manual box for a auto so the misses can drive it lol

Sweet pick up.
I bought in not much better condition than that. If you had any thoughts about getting the headliner done later i suggest doing it now. Had mine done
a few weeks back. Would be heaps easier to do it along with pillars when the windows are out. You dont want to go back and do it later. My was $500.
Looks sick.
Good find with the dash too. Mine is cracked as buggery.
Hey Doc do you have any guages for where the clock is suppossed to go?
Looooooooook aaaat thaaat tuuuuuuuurtle go, broooo..
