Pauter O3E8 or S3E8

Hi,

So after spending the last 6 months rebuilding 1/2 the house after 3 gazillion termites had a fed, I thought i better show the beetle some attention.
Anyway, i drain the oil only to find that all familar grey sludge. So i have stripped the engine and the web 86c doesn`t look the same as when it went in. Luckily it was early days and everything else is still mint.
This time round i want to try a Pauter cam/lifter combo. I was happy with the 86c`s characteristics, just not the early death. Don at Pauter recommends the O3E8, just wondering if anyway has any experience with this cam.
The O3E8 is 268 .05- 296adv .380ish
The S3E8 is 272 .05- 304adv .400
The 86c is 272 .05- 310adv .390
I can lift .630, was lifting .605 with the 86c.
The case has been lifter bore sleeved. I understand all cams are different, even with the same numbers.
Any ideas?

Regards,
Keith

What about using the Pauter S3E8 Cam with a set if those nice Pauter 1:5:1 roller rocker sets.
There made in pretty blue. Come on Larry, you know you want them.

Keith, I have had my share of cam and lifter failure, not sure about the pauter cam, I'm looking into zinc content in the oils we are using in flat tappet engines. Something to consider.

I have used the O3E8 and it is quite a good cam.
That being said there is more power in more duration,
and I am not familiar with the larger pauter grind,
but it is within a couple of degrees of the FK87.(276?)
Perhaps the smaller duration would better suit your heavy car, but it will cost power.
...but perhaps not cost anything in ET?
CT found his car to be faster with less duration, as have found I with my roller cams...
but this(in my case) may have purely been covering up too large a cross section within the inlet tract.

Hi,

I am going to try the S3E8 and see where i end up, can always change it out again if it fails.

Oh, and Birchall i got me some good quality stainless peg springs from Bunnings. There was 20 in the pack so this allowed me to double them up. A little hard to get one inside the other but i got`er done. So yes, i do run double springs.

Thanks.

Hey Birchall,

Just play`n with you. I understood what you meant. I have 380 pound at full lift. I don`t think this is too excessive for a flat tappet cam, i`ve run more than this before and had no problem. But who know`s.

Keith.
