My Square's the fire starter
After traveling just 3ks from my house i started to smell petrol. So pulled over, pulled the engine lid up to find the brass pipe coming out of the
carbie that the fuel line goes on to had come loose and was about to come out. so after 20 mins of messing around i got it back in and nursed it back
home. the funny thing was that i was on my way to pick some carbs up from my mates house for my new 1641 how ironic was that. All good though as he's
on his way round with the new pair. So back up and running soon. Lucky

My Notch did similar just after getting work done on it at the mechanics. I actually had my Dad's '69 Bug do it too, coasted the flames out on that
occassion!
And yeah, like you say 'Lucky', 'cause many a Veedub has gone the great highway in the sky over the same failure.
Go buy a Scratchie, Telf!
Ain't been there, ain't done that.......yet :P

Yes,
many VW owners in the US actually tap the hole and screw in a hose fitting..
I have seen others wired on like they do on aircraft....

one cause is putting the fuel hose too close to the carby body. when the engine warms up the hose expands and pulls the fitting out of the carby .
solution leave a couple of mm gap between the hose and the carby

I'll second the fire extinguisher comment Lee. Like the old American Express ad "Don't leave home without it"
Although prevention is better than cure and I'll have to check my new squareback to see if it has any of these issues.

Thanks for all the feed back.
The first thing i did was to get a fire putter outera the no 1 tool for a vw owner.
Where do you get the threaded tube from? That is 1 good idea.
i ended up turning the brass tube around and putting it in the other way and seems to be ok but the new 1641 is gona get the threaded treatment.
Cheers all
