WTB -1770 Type 1 Kombi motor - maybe/ NSW

Read on:

The 1600TP in my Kombi finally bit the dust so the I am working on an upgrade.

I recently had a Type 3 1770 engine rebuilt but the rear main seized and bent the main bearing locating spigot in the case so now i have heaps of good 1770 bits - Empi heads, 2 sets of 90.5's, Engle 110 and other assorted stuff.

Question one:

Is my existing case dead or can that locating pin be fixed somehow.

2. Anyone got a 1770 short block assembled and ready to buy - minus heads, pistons and barrels?

3. Anyone got a compete 1770 ready to go and want to do a deal with my engine parts?

Whatever you have I need a quick solution because i have next weekend free to do all the work.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi
Without looking at the damage it’s hard to tell but there’s probably a chance the 1776 case can be repaired one way or another. Weld up or move the dowel hole, line bore the case. There’s always a way, but it all costs money & time of course. It would want to be a twin relief case to go to that trouble, no point spending money on an “H” case. What about the 1600 case? If it’s Ok you can have it line bored and / or cut out for 1776 etc. You need to get to a machine shop and check out your options. Would be nice to just buy an engine but there always seems to be a lot more buyers than sellers on here, certainly in the low budget bracket. Probably a few in the “disappointed” ranks too. “Do it right” is probably a good tip.
Good luck, hope you get to enjoy them again. Tony

Thanks Tony. very much appreciated and sound advice. I am happy to spend on doing it right. Just chasing options to see if a quick one was out there. I'll start with the case repair and go from there.
Cheers
