Exhaust Help??? Type 4 Engine Conversion???
Hi Guys new to the forum and thought all the knowledge on hear someone may know how to help me, have completed a type 4, 2Ltr conversion in my custom
1970 beetle, we are a little stuck on how to custom build an the exhaust system or does someone make a aftermarket one, any help would be greatly
appreciated!!!! |

The easy way is to buy one from CSP or Vintage Speed. Boris at Vintage Vee Dub Supplies should be able to help. Otherwise if you have less money than
time, make your own, just buy many exhaust donuts and some pipe and a welder.....

You can make one out of the stock Kombi muffler if it's not a high performance engine.
That's what I was doing when I started putting a type4 in my bug ages ago.
cut the shells off some Kombi heaterboxes and shorten the pipes to the flanges, cut the ends off the muffler just outside the flanges so it fits
between the beetle valance and close the ends off then just weld in 2 tail pipes in the stock beetle position.
Essentially it's just a beetle pea shooter muffler layout but with flanges for a type4 heaterboxes.
Not the best for flow but 10 years ago there were no easy options for a type4 in a bug that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

If you wanted to get really exotic, look up Remmele VW in Germany; they make absolute killer type 4 exhausts.
