Warwick pics,news and results
Not much racing today as the weather really killed everything!! Temps dropped dramatically, wind picked up and then the rain and hail came and ended
the days preceedings. Not a lot people got a run in today but there were a few breakages to a few of the big names.
Rod Penrose destroyed a gearbox without getting down the track. Possibly crown wheel and pinion.
Mike Waldron had issues with the throttle sticking badly so didn't even get to stage.
Aaron Roberts has broken an input shaft he thinks. He did get one run in before the breakage and ran 7.01@ 107 something mph.
Ben ford ran well with a low 7 sec pass with high 90's mph.
Chris Bolton's new car made it's first pass down the track without issue.
Cbb flaming tiki Manx ran really well. Nice and straight but had a slight gearshift issue but now fixed. Easy 7'sec pass.
Didn't get to see any others as I was busy helping westi get the junka ready. Pushing the car to scrutineering punctured a rear tyre so had a mad
dash around Warwick to get it fixed. We were about to go out for a run and the storm hit. A few quick shades were destroyed in the wind especially
ours!! Got the grinder out and cut them up and sacrificed them to the big skip bin.....

Cannot be there unfortuantly.Working all weekend.
Bad luck to those who have lucked out already.
Good luck to those who hopefully get a run tomorrow.
Look foward to reading about some quick passes.
Saw Junka outside Westside last week.Definatley looks the goods.

Just got the call from Ben Wayne Penrose and the crew had a great weekend, with Wanye taking fasted time and mph 6.30@115? and Chris Bolton in his
band new car running 6.70@101mph? and getting best engineered and Ben Ford coming 2nd to Wally in the quick bracket
Not sure if these times are exact but very good to see the WPVW crew having a good weekend

The effort those guys have put in over the last few weeks is awe inspiring...cars looked great packed together on a semi trailer. Well done!

Yep came for a look....so happy you had a success with the new changes, must feel worth it
Frosty looked great!, rod was fast and did well to change clutch to continue after lunch , the gringos went hard, Henry and d.b always solid....saw
the vintage car tank slapping way scary, but laid down a solid pass later....C.T and rose running well too
Wal's wheelies outa the burnout sweet!

Thanks to Craig Huges and his VWMA crew for such a great event.
Gotta say that the show bags were the best ever, Awesome VW hat!
Lots of great results for all the cars on Sunday with the finer weather, and plenty of personal bests.
Apologies to the Warwick track crews and spectators for holding up the show after running over the finish line lights.
Will look for the cause today...never happened in 20 years and 450 odd runs in this car.
My best was a 7.03@96.3, which is a little off my best at Warwick, but best with the 1/4 mile ratios there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oM3_Zlo2BA&feature=uploademail
Highlights for me(that I can remember) were
Stanley's 7.5 run from his 1641cc,
Ben fords 7.0, and his finals appearance,
Chris' 6.7,
Wayne's 6.3!!
Frosty's win,
Rodneys 9000 rpm burnouts,
and the dinner and desert on Saturday night was supoib,
and catching up with all those guys and gals that we only get to see once a year!

Congrats to Craig Hughes for putting on another top weekend even though 3 cyclones hit us on Saturday afternoon
good news about next February event to be held in Sydney much easier drive for all of us from Sydney and a bit easier from the guys from Melbourne
and Adelaide
Congrats to Wally and Ben making the Top 10 Shootout
Best showing BY FAR was the group from WPVW, 5 cars on the transporter and on the track all weekend an outstanding performance even for a photo
shoot at the end
Best in the pits Rod Penrose with a gearbox and a clutch change in between rounds they a re moddleing of the car with a wall tap
Best change of course ( making the track wider than it should be ) Wayne Fenech VVDS

David O'Connor
David O'Connor ran his best time as a 7.0 and had a few 7.3's. He had a issue with a linkage breakage which knocked him out of a round until he
found a get by repair for the problem.

Hi
What great weekend, certainly not enough bench racing was done because of the crap weather.
What a great bunch of people VW racers are in general, met some really nice people and how about Rod Penrose, he had a massive grin on his face
driving back to the pits after hitting the wall, it may only be bent trailing arm
I drove my sons bug up full of camping gear and then he raced it, he flew to Brisbane and I picked him up Friday night, had my fingers crossed all
weekend that we would get home OK.
After a cam change a few months ago, he went from a 10.8 ??mph in 2009 when he won won the slower air cooled bracket to 9.9? at ??mph this year
He dialled in at 10.1 but the car started to loose power at the top end so after two loses, I couldnt find an problem we packed up for the drive
home.
Got about 20 ks down the road and the loss of power showed up, we had no fuel pressure at the carbs, limped into Tenterfield using very light
throttle.
I put the car up on the ramps from the Vintage trailer and removed the fuel filter from the front of the car, it was clear, I called the NRMA and the
guy came out and let me use his compressed air to blow the front to back line out.
Put it all back together and had dinner with the Vintage crew at the local pub.
We left Tenterfield early this morning, car ran great until we got to Singleton, no fuel pressure again, this time to the fuel pump had stopped, gave
it direct power and it worked fine then.
Also just before Singleton I smelt some oil burning, the sump plug was just about to unscrew after few knock on speed humps etc, we got home without
any other issues.
On the way up I had a rocker screw come loose just after the twin servos on the F3 very early in the morning, a spring in the door lock broke and it
was hard to shut the door and we broke an accelerator cable at the track, I think that we may need to get a trailer.
Steve
