How much would most places in Brisbane sting me for a rear main replacement? Yesterday was a very oily day filled with tow trucks trying to get my new

$300? Man i was expecting way more!
What do you mean by "depends on your car"? Do you mean how much other stuff needs to be done as well?

Yep, likely other things get fixed along the way. The perfect car, the job could be done in three hours, but, how much time gets spent on siezed
screws, broken and missing parts, a worn clutch or a leakng gear box input shaft seal, some cars might need an hour just to degrease inside the bell
housing, let alone the engine itself, so yeah, depends on your car  .

Pulling the engine is very straight forward and the crank and gearbox seal are pretty easy to replace.
Have a look at DIYing it

Would LOVE to take on the job myself... Unfortunately I'm pressed for time, space and tools at the moment... oh... and I'm burdened with a
constantly complaining other half too (who has already named the car Betsy Breakdown... which I have shortened to Beebee)...
One of the main reasons I bought another Beetle (apart from loving them so much) is for it to be a car I can work on over time. I'm an apprentice
mechanic, and I want to be able to make this car my daily, and my homework.
I would like to build a new engine for it on the side, and do some tinkering here and there. Joel, I was going to try and pick your brain at some
point actually as I am hooked on your tutorial threads, and you seem to be a Superbug knowledgebase
This is my first Superbug. I've had two other Beetles in the past (67 and 73), but that was back when I didn't know which end of the car was
which.
So yes, in short, I wish I could try and tackle this job myself. But for now, as long as I can get her on the road and putting along smoothly, I'll
be happy. Then as I add more tools to my arsenal, and get rid of my other car (and free up some space) I'll be able to take on the odd job here and
there. It's just baby steps for now
And cheers for the link, Joel. I'm having a read of it now
