Look what I picked up last weekend!!

1982 model T3 Kombi.
Aircooled model with a side nosecone shifted 091 transaxle.
2L injected engine sitting in the rear cargo area. Got her for a steal!

I bought this sight unseen off eBay for $170, was homing for the 5 speed to put in my Baja. Got a really good bus instead :lol:

The '76 Kombi Camper is a rusty mess. Literally falling apart at the seams. The '72 Bus is in quite good condition, I would like to Baja it at some stage. The '61 Beetle is very complete but unfortunately very rusty. The Blue Baja is 'retired' due to wear and tear.
Both the buses are very good storehouses and are full to the top with VW crap.

they are a good bus to drive as you can punt them round pretty easily ,handling is a lot better than a Kombi:tu:

I spent today working on the bus.

Rolled it down to the house on Friday afternoon.

There was a lot of crap in the van that I didn't want, cupboards/sink etc. This was remove to the skip.

She was soon looking a lot cleaner on the inside. And I can't get over how much space this thing has inside!!

And I made a discovery under the backseat! All of the missing engine parts. Breather hoses, tinware, engine mounting bolts etc etc. I was glad that this was all still in the car.

I started messing around working out where all the hoses and lines go with the engine out to make things easier. Can't believe how much wiring and piping this thing has compared to an old Type 1 donk.

Wasn't long before it was looking like this. Albeit after much swearing, lifting and wiggling.

Then I started connecting all of the hoses etc. I'm hoping to fire her up tomorrow with any luck.

What was the reason for the engine being out in the first place?

As far as I can make out the engine was pulled to change the clutch. Both the friction plate and pressure plate were missing. Almost looks like they've gone to buy new ones and never come back. So fingers crossed it will run with no issues.

On Sunday I got everything hooked up. Had to pulled the starter motor out and give it a thorough clean out. It just had no grunt whatsoever.
Engine turns over fine without worries, pumped up oil pressure.
I was having issues with the fuel pump not working. The problem is somewhere in the relay setup. So I hard wired it to the battery and the pump works fine. Too the return line off and ran fuel through the rails.
Turned it over and she will not fire.
Checked a plug lead and she's not getting spark.
Gave the rotor and dizzy contacts a clean off (had already set the points on Saturday) and now she's getting a reasonable spark.
Still won't fire.

I rang Dave and got a consult and he seems to think that the injector needles might be jammed, failing that the ECU might not be sending or receiving the signal to fire.

Anyone else have any other ideas??

Heaps of checks with the efi.....
fuel pressure, engine earths, injection earths, temp sender, flow meter. Seeing you have spark, pull the injectors and view while cranking and stilled wired and plumbed. Should deliver a nice even spray pattern.
