Original pan and tunnel colour ?
Anyone know for sure what the original pan and tunnel colour was that VW used ??? And is it the same for Aussie built cars and US and
Euro's ???
Most resto's people seem to do the pan and tunnel black, but on the few unmolested beetles have seen the topside at least is a dark gray...

I have used anthacite in the past, looked good but unsure about the correctness! I was just using up some leftovers.
PS I haven't forgotten about the front panel if you still need it.
Cheers Dave

Going by the frame horns and a few other places where it's still good, I'd say YES, grey all the way under there, spring plates, the lot

WELL
You learn something every day...
I thought they were ALL black....
cannot remember them being grey.. and I've looked at a few.. [mainly 58-59-60-64-68 models]
Maybe it was too long ago... to remember the Grey colour
[Gray- USA spelling][color-USA spelling]
Were ALL the rubber mats black???
I've a feeling I saw Grey???

My 76 was definitely black, but most of the original paint is just about gone and replaced with POR15 gloss black.

Cool - thanks Daimo !!!
Pan is currently black, but seriously thinking redoing it in dark gray... or dark grey for Lee's benefit... or maybe even dunkel grau being a German
built car
Amazing tho how many swear should be black despite photo's etc... that's what's got me wondering if different markets/factories maybe did things
differently...

Oh and the rubber mats I've seen in black, dark gray as well as a lighter gray that sort of discoloured over time to a mid brown colour... so
there's a few options there at least !!!
