Doubt if you'll get a lot of help here.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Hi Steve,
As you may well be aware an awful lot of solid VW metal has left these fine shores for the UK, because most of the stuff over there has rotted away,
and we conveniently are right hand drive, making our cars preferable to an Arizona special.
However, there are many who take exception to watching this happen, and in the past there have been some rather passionate arguments over it
occurring.
Your case may be somewhat different given you're not turning yourself into a gold digging exporter (at least I hope not), but taking your own car
with you when you move back over, and hopefully you'll come back again in a few years and bring it back again.
In fact you probably are better off having a look in Volksworld for some of the advertisers that do steal our VWs and asking them what's required.
Of course then you have to figure out what's involved in bringing it back again.
Hope that helps
Craig

exporting oz veedubs to the uk is a sore point, i think you'd be better off contacting Oz-campers in the uk they took a whole bunch, and they might
put yours in a container with theirs.

Thanks Craig
I didn't know there was a problem with exporting, but given your points I can see why, sorry if I've come across as a money grabbing dealer, I'm
just a vee dub nut who wants to return to the UK with his veedub for a couple opf years to show his mates his "ride"
I can (and my missus probably wants me too) sell her here but the more I've done to her the more I'm dreadimng saying "goodbye" to her,
I'll google some more as google search engine doesn't have a moral clause built in

I just want to add, that during my initial research, I'll get more money for my dub in Aus than the UK, that's even before figuring in shipping

Don't stress, I know what you were thinking after we were discussing it at the picnic day, but yes, there are many who strongly object. You've
worked on your car, you've got it to the point where it is a sweet ride, and now you don't want to watch all that work disappear.
I think every second car you read about in Volksworld or Ultra VW is a US or Aus import. Those that aren't want to put flash trim on or the Australian hood emblem.
Me, I see it both ways. If we wait for us locals to get around to restoring all the available VWs then an awful lot will rot away, and it's better to
see them restored. BUT they are our VWs, they're going to rot quicker in the UK (especially if they're bought by people in love with the dream and
who quickly get sick of the reality of living with a historic car) and they have a habit of picking up the best examples, leaving us with the
leftovers. Also (and perhaps the biggest point) putting what are relatively big players who are cashed up in a small market just inflates prices,
making it more difficult for locals to afford a decent example.
I suspect that the problem is greater in the Kombi market than in the Beetle market, but I could be wrong.

I never knew the situation, I completely understand the objection to exporting vw's, Not sure if I can stump up the $5000 cash needed to export then
import her back again, may have to look at other options,
Shame I wanted to attend "bug jam", "big bash" etc next year and show her off

Here's the plan:
Buy one over there, restore it, and then when you move back here, bring it with you. Score one to Aus!

I tried that,,,, 8 years later , still wasn't finished, ended up moving here, returning home, selling it, then reading about it in VOLKSWORLD,
as you know

after watching some UK car TV shows...
and reading UK VW magazines...
Cars are ULTRA cheap in the UK compared with here...
Good rust free VWs are just about gone in the UK...
they need a lot of work to keep them rust free...
I see no objection to You taking Your car to the UK..
its Your car...
Many VW enthusiasts in Australia don't like the idea of AUSTRALIAN beetles exported to the UK...
as once they are gone... they don't come back... lol
or anywhere for that matter...
cheers

A good friend of mine sold a really nice car, many years ago. When asked recently why he sold it, he replied "My wife told me, either the car goes or
she would go.......I made the wrong choice"

Hi Steve
If You had said "exporting My Beetle to UK with Me..."
