Could possibly be LN Engineering Charles Navarro's father in laws as he is an aussie. Was speaking to charles about it in may 2011.

Folks,

This is KO 494 and Jerry and Kathy Gober from the US own the vehicle. I gave them some assistance with the resto 12/18 months ago and they did a great job. There are plenty of pics on the Register.
Its great to see the vehicle so well presented and it gets to many US based shows and usually comes back with a trophy for some class.

Hi Bill

was the depression on the front for number plates on all country buggies?

I have seen some with and some without..

naturally it probably didn't fit some overseas plates like the Philippines?? guessing !!

wondering whether it was larger at times???

Lee,

From my understanding the original front panel was only manufactured with the pressing for the number plate in place. I have only seen one size which is larger than the actual plates being affixed.
Yes, I have seen front panels without the pressing but I have noticed there were other non original parts so the front panel appeared to have been replaced as a result of an accident.

Yesterday I saw a CB with no rear hole for the PTO on the outer skin but the hole was still there for the inner which obviously had not rusted out. Always something different.

I guess too, CB panels and specific parts must have been in short supply with production ceasing so soon after the release date so people had to fabricate panels for their cars.

I remember that they were around in the mid 70s as Carter was telling me how cheap the panels were when he was working in parts at Swantons.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

I wonder if there's a NOS stash of panels somewhere? Now that would be good.

YIKES

Oh well that 's modern car companies do..
but back then??
maybe for tax reasons??

Nearly every Country Buggy pic I see Bill,
has different shaped panels..
some sharp.. some rounded..lol

rectangular bumpers sitting up or laying flat..
[always wondered why VW didn't use round bumpers..[pipe]?
