Finding Gears
Hey guys was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction with finding some gears :-)!
Recently installed a reco'd Transaxle in my 74 Beetle (Swing-axle)
Few issues with the nose cone, was earlier, needed later style.
When I re-installed the nose cone I made sure it was set to neutral (pretty sure) but am struggling now to get all my gears!
Can find reverse and 1st and 2nd - but not 3rd and 4th.
Did some googling and found some stuff on Shoptalk about moving the placement of the shifter to help find the gears - I had a little bit of a play
around but was not successful in locating more gears.
Any suggestions???

Should be shifter or coupling grub screw. Is the grub screw uber tight? Are the grub screw dimples in the gearbox hockey stick original or hand
drilled? They can be wrong. Is the coupling in good condition? Is the shift rod bush also in good condition. The shift rod bush is at the gear stick
end supporting the shift rod inside the tunnel, if worn the rod will have play up and down and side to side which can cause shifting issues.
If all above is ok, it's adjustment.

It is a weird Square screw for the coupling, but hit it with the shifter and it was tight, but not super duper tight - will check that!
Shifter bush replaced, so that should be sweet.
Hockey stick that came with Box looked indentical to my original, so I assume it is un-modified.
I will post a pic of how I set the shift forks before I installed the nose cone and hockey stick.
Box is brand new (well reco'd) from Rancho, freeway flyer and super diff.

Yep the wierd screw (square 8mm) is it, I'd say the new coupling is the problem IF the shift rod bush is ok. The couplings available are very poor
guality, they need a weld put where they are just crimped together, this also could cause your symptoms if not perfect. If your old german made
coupling cage is ok, use it with the new rubber parts purchased. ....So didn't the seller of all these bits explain all of this?????? Surprise

Might have binned the old cage, but I am handy with the welder, where do I hit it?
Sorry to impose, but a picture tells a 1000 words - if you have one I would be extremely grateful :-)!
Bought some replacement parts through CIP1, and not really much technical help there :-)!
Rancho have been pretty good, but no explanation in advance - all after the fact :-)!
I will try and find the old cage and tighten the f$ck out of it!
Just so keen to avoid pulling the nose cone off again!

Sorted!
Losened and then really tightened up that grub screw into the shifter coupling.
Removed the shifter, smeared in some more grease and reinstalled - moved it about and found all 5 gears in about 10 mins.
