14" rims on disk brakes
I just bought some 14" rims for my 72 super bug. As the stocks are 15s, the 14s rub on the metal guard surrounding the disks. It only needs about
10mm off the guard for them to fit without rubbing. Are there going to be any issues if i shave a little off to get the rims to fit?

I Have the same issue, im just going to bend out the bottom of it where it slightly rubs on the outer lip of the inside of the 14" wheel.

What exactly does it do? Is it just to stop rocks and stuff getting into the wheel?

You can just take them off, that's all I did when I had rubbing issues.
Been off for over 11 years now and last time I checked my brakes still worked.
Its almost a daily driver and see's all sorts of shitty farm roads and rain with no problems.

Hi
I had 14 inch Hotwires on my old yellow 1302 when I first bought it. I had no issues with the calliper rubbing but I did have an issue with the bottom
ball joint where the thread sticks through the nut, it would touch the wheel, I later had a the same issue with some 15 inch Porsche Cookie cutters
that I used when I had the car painted.
I through my splash guards away but if you you really felt that you wanted to retain them you could use some from a 1500 bug or Type 3 which have a
tighter fit around the disc rotor or just trim the stock ones.

^^ yeah the 14 globe i had rub on the bottom ball joint bolt
I trim the bolt and it's all good.
also angle grinded the bottom side of splash guard off for more brake cooling lol
