Help identifying relay
I'm just going through the process of replacing all my 6volt bits and pieces for 12 volt parts, and came across this under the bonnet.
Has the following stamped on it:
Ingram 6v 40A 832106R R6FD
Before I swap it out for a 12v part and start tidying up all the wiring, guess I need to know what it is for first I guess :-)
Anyone able to shed some light on it for me?
Andy

Fair chance it's for an upgrade on the headlights circut but where do the wires go to ???
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

It's not original. Probably a for the horn or headlights. Just disconnect it and see what doesn't work. Just pull the green earth wire off.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Well it supplies power to something only when the ignition is turned on.
Need to trace that Red/blk wire the heads off toward that bundle of electrical tape.
That wire connects to whatever it's powering.
If its actually connected to that wire wrapped up in electrical tape then it supplying power to the blinker relay.

Yep the red/black wire goes to the bundle of electrical tape, with another solid black wire coming out of that bundle, and heading up toward what
looks like is the back of the wiper motor switch.
What would be the purpose of running a relay through a relay? Could I just remove the Ingram relay from the equation?

It's just supplying battery voltage straight to the wipers and blinkers by bypassing the ignition switch.
You could remove it but it may slow the wipers and blinkers down abit.

Thanks Joel.
Am in the midst of upgrading to 12v, so might test out how everything works without the relay, easy enough to add in later.
Thanks for the input.

Yes, as Joel said, its just an addition probably to the wipers to make them go a bit faster with 6 volts...
the 6v round blinker canister can be replaced by a VW 12 volt one that has a screw at the top that uses a similar bracket as that one...
What are You doing for the wipers to work on 12 volts?
I found that using the coil resistors that many cars used to use... using one is fast speed and using another in series is slow speed... lol
+----/////------/////----- slow speed in series...

switch out one of them for fast speed
+----/////---- fast speed
hope that is clear as mud... lol
cheers
