Scirocco R

Had this a week. Mighty impressed with the whole package!
Makes a great stablemate for the R36 Wagon.
Two of the best modern day dubs...

Awesome looking car, and I love how they've had to make the VW badge so prominent on it... otherwise most anyone could mistake it for one of the sportier/angrier Audi's.

I read somewhere that the Megane Coupe is likely to be it's main competition... a guy round the corner has just got one of the Megane's, and as sexy as it looks the Scirocco kills it IMHO !!!

Thats a bloody good question..

I have had the R36 over 220kmh and felt like it could go on forever.. The only problem was the lack of road.. Handles sweeping corners with only a little backing off.. Great comfort, seat position. A growling responsiveness in traffic when you need it.. Really is one of the nicest handling, GT tourers I have driven (that includes my 635Csi, Mk2 Jag, and Merc SC). And it does 5.8sec to the 100!

I haven't had the Scirocco for long enough but it is a 6sp Manual (V's the DSG in the Wagon) with the most awesome handling in a little coupe. I took the left hand turn off Oxford Street into Cook Road, Moore Park this morning at 70KMH in the wet! Downshifted, no brake and felt the front go a little for a fleeting instant.. Then all the technology took over and the car went around like it was on rails..! Great legs and acceleration in 3rd gear.. In fact I spend most of city driving in 2,3,4 and love it.. I have heard the Meganne is slightly quicker but lacks the build quality of the Scirocco.. Just as a footnote, I am getting it retuned (Revo) this weekend.. Expect 245kw on a 1300kg bodyweight.. That is GT3 performance!..

So yes.. I am grinning.!
Dave.. Love to do WSID but I think a Goulburn track day would suit me better..
Cheers

The latest wheels or motor mag has the scirocco as slightly faster than the megane (14.1 vs 14.3) on the quarter but the megane has a little bit better handling, but as we all know no-one in their right mind would buy a french car no matter how fast it is.:D According to boring 0-100 km/h figures the r36 passat is VWs quickest ever production car which should be doing 13 second quarters with launch control . I would love to have both of those cars in my driveway pemanently!

Had it re-mpped today with the Revo upgrade. Tuned up by George at VW Village in Kensington. Only limited chance to drive today but very happy with the increased performance.

Funny, I agree on the power side..
I'm getting a bit sick of the front wheel tramp when you step on it..
Also the hard ride.. Sydney roads have potholes and new tar that makes chicanes look like pencil lines.. Bit sick of trying to steer round everything.. Miss the R36 ride.

no contest.
