END OF THE RED FAN SHROUD.... NEW COLOR - seems red is a luckier color ?? YIKES..
Well,
After My Son bought Me a new doghouse oil cooler and I have had over heating problems I decided to repaint My RED doghouse fan shroud and tinware..
After much soul searching... about what color to choose....
Here it is.... You may not like it.... You may Hate it...
but its here to stay.... lol
the paint is Killrust EPOXY spray can paint... I painted a black steering wheel and steering shaft cover that ignition sits in..
so far it seems very tough...

PS: it would have saved Me about a weeks work of wire brushing the old paint off if i had kept the shroud painted RED... alternator backing plate was
yellow is now metallic burgundy... can't have too much yellow... lol

I bought it from the USA years ago.. maybe CIP1...
along with 12vZ and fuel cap stickers..
I see other reproduction stickers for sale but haven't seen that one...
I did find [a few years ago] a company in the USA that made top quality reproduction VW stickers...
they weren't that expensive either... BUT
they wouldn't stick them in an envelope with a $1 stamp on it
they sent all their stuff out in packets etc and the cost of sending them over here by DHL etc was just plain stupid...
but "they sent all their goods out that way" ??
maybe they hadn't sent any of their stuff out of the USA before?? found a few companies back then that wouldn't..

its been tested in the USA that those flaps or gills are needed to direct air to exactly where its needed.. even when open...
I do have a new thermostat but have never fitted it... even had the rod connected for a few years...
I have found that the oil pressure releif valve works just as well... If I drive around town My oil never goes thru the oil cooler as the oil needs
to get hot and thin enough so the relief valve will allow the oil to flow thru the oil cooler..
the oil temperature in the sump doesn't move much until I drive out onto the highway... then up it goes... and oil flows thru the oil cooler...
I believe that is the reason that VW Mechanics in Australia were told to take out the thermostat in new beetles back in the 60 and 70s... [alsohappened in other countries]

It's very tough and durable paint.
I've actually painted one of my cars with Killrust fire truck Red.
Stone chips and scratches barely marked it.

I've used the killrust epoxy on wiper arms and it seems to deteriorate, perhaps from prolonged uv exposure. It may he fine in applications that are
away from the sun, so engine bay may be fine. How did your fire engine red go Joel in terms of long term stability?

I only owned it for abit over a year after I painted it but it was still looking as after a year even though it used to sit in the sun all day
long.
What do you mean happened by deteriorate? did it just flake off or fade away?
How was your prep?
The bumpers on my bug are just done with white Killrust too and are still looking fine after all these years (rear is about 6 years now) I just etch
primed first.

MORE PICS
wire brushing all the old paint was the worst part..
then the shop ran out of glossy BLACK Epoxy Killrust paint
so, not sure what color to paint the tinware over the cylinders and the rear tinware....??
have painted the inlet manifold aluminium High temp paint.
its going to be a shame to close the engine lid...lol

The gloss black has gone decidedly dull on my wiped arms. It looked fine after initial application.

Interesting, I've never had that problem with Killrust, the gloss has lasted well for years.
Possibly a bad batch?
Another good enamel I've had a lot of luck with was Polykote from Bunnings except they have now discontinued it

I painted a rear bumper [old german bumper] that had discolored on one end, don't know what caused it, but I rubbed it back, etch primed it and
painted it silver in 2005, and forgot about it, but found it last month behind a shed and still in good condition.. no rust, no flaking paint.. there
was also a rear brazillian bumper there that is rusted badly... it had some surface rust back then.. I wonder whether coating Brasillian bumpers with
clear epoxy paint is better than waxing it every week...

POR15 gloss black goes very dull very quickly in the Sun...
but they do say its not UV stable.. worst I've ever seen..
