My next project...
Hi everyone, picked up this splitty monday, 3km from home. Unsure what year it is yet, haven’t been able to find VIN number as yet. Anyone got an
idea what year it is? Solid around the roof and gutters. No running gear but good in the floor. This will be my project once the beetle is going.
Here is a picture as found…

That is an excellent looking base which just looks like it needs some new sills?
Throw up some photos of the rear of the split - it will give some good hints as to its age.
Looks like a 60-61 to me from the front and side.
Also, I thought you could find the chassis number in the engine bay right hand side near the battery tray??
Worth a look.
I like the de-mossed look too.

Thanks for the comments found the ID tag and found out it is a 63.
Needs sills both sides, a few small repairs in floor, front near bumper and a few other repairs, but otherwise mostly panel work.

Hey looks good.
My bus is a 67 it has large numbers stamped in the engine bay sheetmetal on the LHS. The first 3 digits tell you what model it is.
There might be an aluminium plate on the bulkhead behind the driver seat, or on the side of the air box. Mine has a small plate on the remove-able
engine cover that had a date stamped in.
I might be wrong but I read somewhere that if the rear louvres are down low it's from overseas, aussie busses had the louvres up high.
The first two of them are not displayed on the option plate, but you can find them on your registration papers and in the back near the engine. These
two numbers indicate the model:
21 Van (no windows in cargo compartment)
22 Microbus
23 Kombi (windows in cargo compartment)
24 Microbus Deluxe
26 Pick-up
27 Ambulance
The third digit (the first on the options plate) stands for the model year. For example "7" stands for 1967. The model year runs from August of the
previous year until July in the actual year.
The fourth digit (the second on the options plate) is a "2" on all busses. I have no idea why.
The number that remains is a serial number.

its a late 62-63, 64 had big indicaters up front and 61 had fat front wheel arches and flat lip rear arches
