Spare Parts....
Hello,
Was just curious what spare parts you carry with you in your Beetle for the event of a break down. I am currently making up a spares box and am
currently throwing in the following items:
- fan belt.
- fuel hose and hose clamps.
- fuel filter.
- 2 x spark plugs
- light bulbs.
What other items should be included, ie clutch cables etc
Cheers

What I carry in my bug:
Fan belt
Spare tyre
Spare fuses - I bought a couple of packets and put them in the ashtray. I've helped other VW drivers in the past by giving them ceramic fuses.
Wheel bolts x4 - I have had wheel bolts back out before and they were caught in the hubcap. The threads were mangled but purely by chance I happened
to have four extra wheel bolts in the car to swap them with. I make sure to do them up tight now!
Bottle of oil - just in case. I keep a 5 litre bottle in there, often whatever is left over after an oil change.
Cable ties, electrical tape and duct tape - handy for fixing your car and a thousand other uses. For example, in the past I have had a fan belt snap
whilst driving. As it went, the fan belt ripped big holes in the heater tubes from the fan housing to the heat exchangers. I taped these up with duct
tape, replaced the fan belt and was on my way again in about five minutes.
Tools I carry:
600mm breaker bar with socket for wheel bolts, it lies flat across the fuel tank and takes up almost no space. Much better than a little wheel brace.
Set of combination spanners and usually a 3/8" drive socket set.
A #2 philips head screwdriver and a medium sized flathead.
Side cutters and needle-nose pliers.
Factory jack, although when I'm going to motorsport events and intending to change tyres, I bring a hydraulic trolley jack.

John Muir's idiot book has a good section on tools.
Worth a read.

RACQ Card plus spare, tire lever and jack for general driving (very little)
at the track is a different matter.....
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
