Bit of an update.

fitted a new repo L/H guard just needed some of the mounting holes filed to get decent alignment and sharp edges cleaned up. painted valance too.

also fitted a speed hut Dehn fuel gauge. And prepped and painted the deck lid, spring and mounts

Great Pics...

nice rear valance.... and don't see too many early [1964>] engine lids
with the push button lock that was used in later beetles.

I can't actually remember those on early beetles at all....
but I've seen a few engine deck lids with the rectangle hole so they must have been on some.... on cars at some time...

I know they were on the 1966-67 USA German made beetles....

cheers

Lee

Thanks Lee my engine lid was rusty on the bottom and inside and I had a super beetle engine lid here so I cut the lock section out n welded it into mine then made a new catch on the valance.

Few updates Beryl now has cross drilled rotors all round and 17x7 Empi Fuchs replicas with 195/40 17 fronts and 215/50 17 rears. I'm now needing a new engine as I just pulled it out to fix some oil leaks and fit a new cam....But my motor is cactus! bearings, crank and case are fucked! not bad for a $250 engine done 15000k's since I've had it and 2 track days lol have to start saving now...New seats too. also fitting long axles and widening the rear guards soon. Maybe fitting a stock width beam and widening the front guards too.

I have just been thru the whole post again- I am so glad you didn't listen to the bleeding hearts. You have an awesome car mate.I think I read you had a desire for a Chico turbo engine- that would be the crowning glory- fantastic job.

Some updates on Beryl.
My motor had a bearing failure so this is happening, new AS41 case, 69mm crank, Engle W110 cam & lifters, scat crank install kit, deep sump. reused my 1641cc barrels and heads as they were not that old.

Also fitted a Wright gears reconditioned transaxle, new late long swing axles with 1 piece boots and new OEM axles. These were installed for extra inner guard clearance required because of the trans raise.

Waiting on some CSP 4cm wider stock styled guards to arrive from Germany.

Here's some pic's
