'68 2 speed Wipers not working - help!
Finally re installed wiper assembly after replacing shafts and having autoelec give the motor a clean, adjust and test. They worked well for a minute
then after adjusting the position of the blades, they don't work anymore. The aftermarket intermittent switch won't stir them to life either.
Any suggestions as to how I can test the switch and motor with a multimeter? I really don't want to pull it all out if I can avoid it
Cheers.....Wayne

Hi Wayne
I know its a pain...
I only put Mine in once... lol
but tested it once in My hand....
the bend arm, if its straight the motor cannot turn a full circle...
undo one end... and try it...
and don't put Your fingers anywhere near it as when its turned off ,
it will self park usually on your finger.... OUCH...
then You need to get Your finger out of there...

was it all working as a system with the intermittent control before it was pulled out? Or is this a new element that has not been proved?
Does the motor have any strange new smell? Hot varnish sort of smell?
is the fuse blown or loose?

Good questions. The intermittent wipers have been installed and working for about 25 years. The reason I pulled the wiper system out was the wipers
started making a clicking noise which sounded like it was coming from the motor. I took the motor to an auto sparky who cleaned it internally,
adjusted the armature top bearing screw then tested it and pronounced it ok. Lee, I did check for binding prior to connecting the motor to the wiper
arms, however it seemed ok. But I didn't run it all out of the car
However (and I still can't believe I didn't check it), yes the fuse has blown. So now I guesss I need to pull it out to check the motor for strange
smells or signs of burning as fuses nearly always blow for a reason.

Hi Wayne
something wrong if the fuse blew..
but I'd try another fuse and see what happens...
I have a circuit diagram here of the wipers somewhere..
although not with intermittant..??
did they work OK until You switched them off???
as there is a switch inside that reverses polarity to self park the wipers.. [to stop the wipers the motor goes backwards..lol]
that may have caused the problem if the wiring was wrong??

I have the Bentley manual. The intermittent has been installed and working for years and all I did was unplug it then replug it so doubt that is the
issue. But it is cold and wet in my part of the world tonight so will leave it 'till tomorrow to star further testing, perhaps with a new fuse
Cheers

Replaced the fuse and wipers working again, however intermittent has died. At least I can get the Beetle back on the road now.
Cheers
