What could the rattle be??

Ok so I bought this 75 kombi. All prettied up and the seller lying about how the rust was cut out and properly done. ANyway thats not an issue. My mechanic has the bus at the moment and he has it running nice but there is a rattle down low. It doesn't afftect power, running or anything and when inside the car you cant hear it. So I am just after opinions as to what it might be seeing as it doesn't seem to affect the running. My young mechanic is not a VW guru either but he isn;t a woose and has a go and all the work on my other cars has been excellant. So suggestion splease of you ahve experienced anything similar. Oh yeah its and 1800 with twin solexs if that means anything. Thanks in advance.

Push down on the bottom of the bit of tinware behind the crank pully - I have seen them touch on the back of the pully (especially if the screws are a bit loose, or the tinware is cracked) and they make quite a rattly noise then.

Sorry, I don't know what the rattle is. But get an oil change, filter and strainer change. VW motors depend heavily on oil quality for both lubrication and temperature maintenance.

I had a woeful rattle that scared the bajeebuz outta me.

Ended up being the air vane inside the exhaust collector just below the pulley where it goes into 1 pipe. The spot welds had broken off and it was rattling in there. It took me forever to work it out! So much so, i even bloody pulled off the heads thinking it was a dropped seat. I only found out where the rattle was by shifting the exhaust collector once removed and hearing the rattle go off.

I used the 'screwdriver to the ear' trick to find it, and because the noise/vibration must have transmitted through the exhaust into the head, it made me think it was there. Old mechanics often say about the transmission of the sound tricking you. It was one of those 'man i'm so pissed' but relieved moments to realise it was something so simple and on the outside.
