Books

Hi all,

I have been searching the net the last few days looking to purchase a book or 2 to step me through restoring/modifying my 61 beetle. Just wondering what are the best books to buy as there seems to be quite a large selection.

Do you have any engine books? I dunno bout body/wiring/interior books, but the "Keep your VW alive" is a must.
Apart from that, I got nothing!

Hi
I would recommend this book -

Haynes VW beetle & transporter
guide to purchase & restoration

F474 ISBN 0-85429-474-0
BY LINDSAY PORTER 326 pages...
printed in England 1986 and every year to 1994

although this book has kombis and Beetles and Karmann cabriolets in it... plus a lot of late model beetle Super photos its the best I've seen.. on restoration etc..
a good read too...

I also have many Haynes, chilton, - autobooks - auto press - workshop - owners manuals including the Australian Gregorys no 46 service and repair manual for beetles 1954/1971
which is quite a good manual..
always on ebay...

Keep an eye out on Ebay... for good used books too..

Best place to look is amazon.com in the USA where they list new books plus used 2nd hand books from individuals.
these can be $5-00 for a manual with dirty finger prints in it to as new books at 1/2 or even 1/4 the new price..
Naturally postage will be an issue too...

historic volkswagens by richard copping is a good book too.
it has a few photo of every model beetle from 1946 to 1967.. plus lots of info.. on the changes etc.. colors of cars and the 12 different running board rubber colours... lol.
Yes they came in colours... Not only black... another good read.. I got mine from http://www.pitstop.net.au

cheers

Lee
