VW Factory on TV

Short notice as in right now on 7mate channel 72, VW and Wolfsburg visit. VW factory coming I hope! Has anyone seen that glass tube building which stores the cars at the VW factory, what an awesome bit of kit! It has a lift up the middle to move the cars around.

Didn't have much on VWs really so if you missed it you didn't miss much.

I've recently come back from Germany and seen the glass factory in Dresden. I'll dig up some pics and post them.

The inside

I don't think you are supposed to take pics inside, but I snapped this sneaky. FYI the only assemble the Phaeton in here, their top of the line model, which are all custom built to clients' requirements.

They have some interesting videos playing in there on some of the popular models, like the Kafer.

One of the cool things is that Dresden didn't want VW bringing in semi loads of parts etc into their town. So VW had 2 custom trams built to run on the tram system and it runs twice a day bringing in the parts for the 2 shifts.

We watched it (and recorded it as well) and was pretty good. Unfortunately they didn't show any of the manufacturing side of it. The 2 glass towers are called Turmfahrt and we have been on the tour that takes you up to the top where the views are spectacular. It is definitely worth a visit and the Ritz Carlton hotel on site is absolutely fantastic as well so you stay there if you ever go.
