accelerator pedal question 1962

hey they dubbers,

after re-assembling accel pedal in my bug 1962, i noticed that when depressed fully, the z bar pushes past the full travel on the accel cluster arm and becomes inverted, causing the pedal to jam and lock down, i need to physically lift it up for it to return to upright position,

the thing is, i dont have any sounddead or carpet installed yet, so is it possible that the pedal is travelling too far befor the stop on the backside hits something solid?

i have a pic of the pedal in the locked down position

Hi

It could be a number of things adding up make this happen, badly repaired & located pedal pivot, bent pedal stop etc.

Have look at the rod that goes into the cluster, you will notice that it has an unsupported section that over time bends forward, you can correct this by twisting that section back towards the driver.

You can fit a proper stop on the linkage on the left side of the tunnel, just bend back the cover and make a up stop then bend the cover back over, don't unbolt the cover otherwise you will loose tension on the clutch pedal.
