REMOVING type 3 fan/CRANK pulley?? need some wisdom/help!

hi.

I'm tearing into a type 3 1600... pulling down to a long block to prep up for a type 1 beetle fan setup.

but i can't seem to get this crank pulley off because i can't stop the crank from turning :(. i pocked around trying to lock it up but i don't wanna bust anything and thought i would ask before i go blazing saddles... I'm hoping to get this sorted without needing special tools, cause i don't intend on doing this on an often basis.. and am putting this weeks $ to some fresh beetle cooling tin.

any help would be much appreciated! :)
many thanks,
Christopher.

Have you got a flywheel lock? A piece of 50 x 50 x 6 angle iron about 1m long with 2 holes to bolt onto the flywheel with 2 clutch bolts will do.

They're a very versitile tool ;)
drill the other end for the wheel bolts and they work well for holding the drums to undo the axel nuts
