I've been a bit lazy and havent updated this thread for more than a month. anyway over the last month

I cut out some rust of the rear quarter while the heater channel was out as it is a lot easier to do.

A pillar section went in too. I was pretty anxious to put in the door to see if it still fit!

The door fit like a glove! phew! very relieved. Even the folds in the panels lined up perfectly! Very happy about that.

Jon,
I know your pain. The only way to do it is to approach it as a series of small jobs and have a lot of patience.

Nice job, well done.

Yeah, nice job !

I've done an A pillar and bottom hing mounting point before, but have never been game enough to do an entire heater channel !!!!

You've done well, and if the panel fit is good around the door, you should be really proud of yourself.

Tack welded in. decided to do one half at a time because it would be easier to line up. Cant see it in the photo but the lip was folded and beaten over. Took absolutely ages using the shrinking and stretching heads to get it right!

Awesome stuff Jon - it was hard enough for me to do some minor patch sections on my decklid and get it straight again - you will be replacing the entire lower section so I take my hat off to you!!

Great stuff. :bounce

In the past month i've prepped & painted 2 test colour panels. I'm learning this at night at TAFE.

The first one I did on the left I must have mixed the paint wrong! It's like an olive colour when it is supposed to be a grey. Maybe too much yellow ochre!

The 2nd one was my first 2 pack job. Very impressed by the difference between 2pack and acrylic. That is the finish off the gun. The one on the left needed rubbing and buffing, and it isnt half as shiny!

Put it on the car. The decklid that I painted is a different one to the one I am repairing in the previous photos. I quite like this colour, its L469 Anthracite. I think i'll do this colour with probably a dark cherry red side panels?? I used to not really like two tones that much on beetles when it is done with white, but i quite like the grey and dark red combo

Although in the midday sun in the previous pic it looks a little too browny, I think this was because it is a slightly transparent colour and the yellow coloured primer showed through a bit. Will have to put some tinters in the primer next time

Cut out a section of roof from behind it and welded it in. The roof curve from behind it was the perfect shape, Easy!
