Na Modnrod. $1.10 bitumen all the way now. Probably one of the best bits in the state. Means under 2 hours for us to get to the river though. I remember the old road well though. My old man getting a waltz up through a long mud puddle in an XD Falcon and Mum screaming "we're gunna get bogged!"
Bulldust in summer, bulldust and mud in winter. There's still plenty of those roads out there between the hills and the river.
Loved the vid. Body roll and powerslides. That's fun driving. No need for massive horsepower either.
The fast guys I used to rally with weren't always in powerful cars, just good at keeping up corner speed.
Hope our Bug gets plenty of that once its on the road. Boss lady says no gravel for her Notch.
What speed does a VW need to hit to lift off. If that thing had wings I'm sure he'd have achieved a record to beat the Wright Brothers!
That is a very bad site Modnrod! A fella could disappear in there and never return.
Have been thinking about that 5th wheeler for a while now. How cool would it be to show up the GHN's at the local caravan parks!
Dunno if anyone else has come across Car SOS yet.
Episode 9 of Season 2 has a really nice story about restoring a Camper for an old bloke.
I downloaded the episode but from Youtube I could only find it in a single video that has the whole season in one.
If you don't want to watch all if the episodes the campervan one starts at 2:35:19
There's two jumps in there. Did you notice that on one there was someone laying in the snow to film underneath.
Imagine.... cause of death... had Kombi fall on him!
That's one of my favourite VW vids.
Proves even aircooled engines can cope with an occasional water cooling! My Uncle had an early Bay and Dad had a 186s four door HG Monaro (read fully optioned Kingswood!) in the Top End in '74-75. Heaps of camping trips to places along the East Alligator and Mary Rivers where it was later called 4WD only.
Makes me more keen to get our Lowlight on the road.
