My VW Beetle 1966 has only a 12 volt batterie and therefore my blinkers hardly blink.
It is very dangerous when I turn right in the middle of the night and I have to stop in the middle of the street and wait, because if the lights are on the blinker has no power at all - not even for one blink.

I went to a car electricion, but he said there is nothing I can do. I asked him if I get upgrade the car to a 12 Volt batterie and he said yes, but it is hard to find parts. The guy did not even check my car at all. Maybe there is something else wrong? A connection or the generator?

It seems that nobody is willing to fix an old VW Beetle like this and I am very upset and hope somebody can help me. Cann't I get a second batterie or anything?

Any help? Any ideas? I would appreciate your help a lot.

Claudia (Northern Beaches)

PS: Do you know any place in the are I can bring my car too? :puke

:cryI would like to ask you if you could help me with any advice.

I have a VW Beetle 1966 with a 6 Volt Batterie. If I turn the lights on, the blinker don't work anymore (especially if the car is not driving). There is not enough energy.
I have been to an auto electrition, but it seemed that he was not interested at all to help me. He said there is nothing I can do. I asked him if I can upgrade the car to 12 Vold. But he told me that it is very hard to find old spare parts and it will cost 1.000,--.

However I do not give up and I cannot believe there is nothing I can do. Can't I use a second batterie or something? Anything?!
The auto electrition did not even bother to check my generator or any connections at the car. Where can I go? Do you have any tips how I can fix my problem with the blinker not working?

With many thanks.

PS: Maybe you know a place I can go to? Or a person I can contact? Your help is so much appreciated.

Possibly a bad earth lead, a blown globe or a faulty flasher unit, these are the common problems with your indicators.volma1
They are still there, just have faith you'll find one.

Not much needed to convert to 12v ! you need to replace your generator, generator stand, regulator and all your light bulbs :thumb Not too sure who could help on the beaches, but Clarke automotive at Hornsby would help. Should cost half the quoted price !

The only negative would be that your car would no longer be original 🙁

Same thing happened with my 67 6 volt bug...turned out just to be a globe.
One thing ya gotta do is find a mechanic who is intrested in vws(very hard to come by) to get answers and progress. Then u get the ones that just fix em but arent passionate about them Ive come across so many who dont give a s*** cause its an old vw, I even experianced difficulty the other day trying to get someone to wheel align the kombi, I couldnt believe it, soon as i mentioned what it was.......
You could always learn to fix it yerself like i am, slowley but surely.
cheers ree

Hi Claudia,

I have had trouble with auto electricians as well. Hubby and I rebuilt the car and it had spaghetti for wiring. Even with a wiring diagram, it took me 3 attempts to find an electrician who would and could fix it. Don't take what one person says as true. It doesn't make sense that it is the battery if your headlights are working fine, but hey I'm female - what do I know.
My son just bought a mini and its taillights and blinkers weren't very bright and we found that someone had connected the wires around the wrong way and we created a better 'earth' by adding a wire, but that is a job for an auto electrician.

You need to talk to an expert. At the top of the page is the OZ Business Directory and there should be someone there you could ring and ask all the questions. If there isn't anyone close to you, ask on the page for contacts. If you ring one of the VW businesses they have usually seen and heard everything and will give you the correct advice.

Have fun and enjoy your car no matter what you do to it.

ask the battery guy for an 8 volt battery. you can run all the same bulbs ie six volt and the bug will start better. the genny still charges an 8 like a six and you dont have to change anything. cheers, fish.
