Ok, i have replaced all of the fuel lines on my 74 kombi except the one running from the fuel tank to the first filter.
Is there any easy way to replace this line without getting fuel everywhere other than draining the tank?

Simple answer,,,Nope
have had to change two filters on the side of the road,,, best way I found is to get a pencil, that is sharpened with a sharpener not a knife( round surface) take your shirt off, watch, climb under and remove clamp, with the pencil in one hand wiggle the hose off with the other and ram the pencil in when your arm starts burning with petrol running down it :thumb

P.S. did you put 5.5mm hose, tank to filter,8mm filter to pump, 5.5mm pump to carbs ?

DON"T FORGET the breather lines. They are important to change also!
Especially the one behind the spare wheel well.

Well if you dont want to drain the tank....which is pretty easy....just drive the car until you run out of petrol, then change it then.......😀

OK, thanks guys. :thumb

I think I will drain the tank.

I think I used 5.5mm for lines to carbys - I thought they were all the same??

Andy, thanks I know - I found out that one the hard way..had fuel pissing out of the joins in the breather lines when i overfilled the tank once..real scary stuff. :o

Depending on which pump you will find the inlet is 8mm and outlet is 5.5mm. think thats the right way around. Strange, but its a VW. I'm in the process of trying to move my filter away from the starter motor. Reading the earlier post on fire makes me sure I'm doing the right thing, but moving it inside will raize the temp on the non pressure side by 2 or 3 deg's. Don't know where to put it yet...
