Hey all you Tech heads here's one for youes, haha.
What is the wear limit on the cam followers and where are they measured from??. Why is the inlet follower concaved and the outlet flat??.
Cheers all :P

They should all be slighty convex, so when you put 2 together they rock just a bit,
Sounds like you will have a worn cam too.

Why does it sound like I have a worn cam??

Checked two manuals, neither mention cam follower wear limit.
No idea??
yeah that's what I did, the official manual doesn't talk of them which is weird.
Anyways I think I am going to split the case open and check it all out internally. I had no intention of doing any of this but what can I say, I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
Cheers guys, thanks for your replies :thumb

If your lifters have worn concave, it will have worn grooves into the lobes of the cam.

Yes the cam has got grooves. I am splitting the case this afternoon and will be taking all the components out and having them measured. I have got prices for re-grinds etc and even line boring if my case needs it.
Only concern is do they build the cam lobes back up before they grind them, or do they grind them down then fit something or other to make up for loss of lobe??
THanks all!!

The effective lift on the cam is the radius of the lobe's peak minus the radius at the base circle diameter. When they regrind the cam, they will grind the base circle down as well, and you then set your rockers to suit. It doesn't bother anything unless the cam has been ground several times (beyond the adjustment in the rockers). 🙂

Kool, thanks for that. So THAT'S why the regrind is inexpensive for the camshaft. I thought the cam would need to be built up etc. then reground back to original size, but it's like kruizinkombi said.
I will be after some veryvery good bearings for the crankshaft, camshaft and bigends etc..... any brand suggestions (german?) and who supplies them??
Cheers

ring bryant engineering in bris they do cams and lifters and are the best in the business, ever heard of ivan tighe, get onto mick for the rest of the bits and while your talking to bryants get the cam smartened up coz the stock grind is way lazy, i presume your doin a t4
