Starting engine outside the car

I don't have a spare g/b nor the kit so what about the good old "belt around the pulley" trick? Will it work? What do I need hooked up? Dizzy is in & jooked, coil is in and hooked. But excuse my ignorance, where will the coil gets its power for the spark from? Do I need to hook a battery as well and run the +ve to the +ve side of the coil?

I think yr trying to KILL yrself. using the belt around the pully either you will die from heart strain or you will get tangled up in the pully and choke yourself.... VERY DANGEROUS.

Go to wrecker and get yrself a old gearbox.

yes you need a battery hooked to starter and a wire from + side of battery to + coil. fuel tin as well.
