What are the obstacles involved with bringing cars in from o/s? I just saw this post from US. With the dollar on the rise that's getting cheap (ish!) considering what they go for here...

"$ 12,500 1955 Volkswagen Deluxe IDYLLWILD, CA
VWs: 55 23-window Deluxe microbus, original, needs restoration, $12,500 obo; 62 23-window walk-thru, needs completion, $13,500 obo; 63 23-window, undergoing restoration to showroom cond, 1 year warranty. 909-659-2239, CA. Category: Collector Date Posted: 11/24/03"

Also, has anyone been searching o/s for kombis? I saw a post on here somewhere where someone said they saw a few in Peru. Would they be dodgy Brazilian ones though?

I'm in need of a holiday so if can someone suggest a few countries where splitties were sent and where the dollar would convert favourably? It would be good to get a few coming back in in any case...

... in Bali there's a few interesting bays like that 14 window being used as bemos. There's a few really nice buses over there actually. Also saw an EH Holden wagon in Jakarta...

Why is it double to bring a bus in? Do you stack the ghias on top of each other?

I dont think so if your cheap Im not interested
I do quality conversions for ghia from $3500 metal finished hand made glovebox
in your matching colour dash
new steering parts and engineered here
included in cost for RTA
a splitty would be from the same
weve done the 2 best ghias in the country owned by Jim Metcalf from the sporting car club who organises the classic rally here in SA if you want references
now if someone says they can do it for less as good I dont think so
cheers

emailed a bloke in Argentina VW Club and he said 95% of the kombis in Peru are Brazilian. He said prices range from $US800 - $2000.

He wrote:

"Hi Im Carlos the webmaster , join in to the club , nice to read letters of VW maniatics! !! , my mother in the 70´s have one Split GERMAN Comby , the front windows open to the the sky like a jeep ,

Look vintage parts in PERU they are! but is to hard to found it, 95% of comby models are made in brazil , German not to many.

Bug type 1 is more easy to find parts and cars, last week with a friend buy a 73 german preaty white car in US$800 as new never crash, in line no rusty . I have 3 friends they are members in our club they are 3 of the most experience in the VW vintage in Peru , write in the forum (don´t worry write in english, put your questiion about the split ) most of peruvian guys now english

Stay in contact

CARLOS

ps. the cost are in to US$800 to US$2000 , like in all the world if the owners now car they have, and the conservation of it

all new brazilian parts for all aircooled models are chipper (low price) "
