I was soooo sick of my cheap 6" speakers making weird noises when I play Metallica, Rammstein or AFI that when I saw Sony Xplode 6X9" at Supercheap on special i grabbed them! They are so good! Supercheap also had 6X9" speaker boxes there on sale too, so i grabbed them as well. Now i've just gotta get new 6" in the front door panels and I'm thinking i'll go the Xplode's again. What do you think?

as BennetonVW said......a decent performer at a decent price......not really a super dooper speaker but produce nice sound.........but for hardcore stuff u want alpine or clarion.....its kinda strange how sony used to kinda rule the electrics world and it still is a very major brand but it never really made the best car audio equipment.

The main thing is that you are happy with them boozer. As hinted above Sony xplod don't have the best rep in the car audio world, but for their cost they do a good job. As I said, the main thing is that they are an improvement on your old ones so good stuff! :bounce

I've done 20-25 car stereo installs in the last few years and a few of them have been Sony setups. I can honestly say they are the most overhyped, over priced, over marketted pieces of crap I've ever put into a car. The JVC range, which is usually cheaper on a comparable spec'd product has a much more responsive, bassy, crisper sound. Then if you spend a few more bucks and get Kenwood / Alpine it starts to put Sony to shame and if you spend even more and go to Rockford Fosgates, theres no competition whatsoever. Obviously tho, price is nearly always a consideration, and also wether you're going for SQ or SPL, but IMO (and in many many other peoples), you can definitely get more for your money than with Sony's car audio gear. But hey, if you're happy with them as is, stick with it.

it all depends how you use them. i haev explods in the front, ancient splits in the rear in a huge box (the entire underside of my rear seat is the box :o ), and a 12inch extremely cheap sub boxed into the front where the spare wheel used to go. currently all hooked upto a sony headunit and the sound? amazing. the 6x6s are low on bass, but the huge rear bow with the splits really kicks, the explods offer great higher frequencies, and the sub is so cheap that it is really only a woofer and therefore i am running it as a speaker directly from the stereo and ru this way it provides absolutely heaps of audible bass, al 3 elements combine to make a really well balanced system, my only complaint about the cheaper equipment is slightly less clarity then the higher end equipment.

And for my other 2cents AFI are terrible. and system.
Audioslave is just boring, but Chris Cornell is awesome.

Personally im not a big fan of Sony Explod.

My current ride is fitted out very thoroughly with DLS speaker, amps and cap. The head unit is a Clarion, close to top of the line.

It is a beautiful system worth every cent!

I highly advise you put in a solid effort with the sound deadening. A genuine effort with the deadening material will improve the sound of any speakers, well worth the cost.

Booz, have you seen the movie Joe Dirt, am picturing the part where he was questioning what music you were actually listening to. You say Metallica, Rammstein or AFI but in reality it was Bryan Adams or Wham.. 😀
