Hmmmm....I know someone who used an interior door as a surfboard.....So no I don't doubt it one little bit😀

Will that girl, second from the right, ever get painted...if she does...what will her design be?

Or, is she destined to remain a clean canvas?

Hey - David: Get out! I thought of this first! I shoulda patented the idea!

But seriously, no offence intended. I, too, had this idea, ooh, about 5 - 6 years ago. Keeps buggin me. There's this vision of cruising down the Murray at the wheel of a Kombi. The steering wheel connected to the rudder, or the outboard. The wheel arches cut out and panels welded in, to give a flatish floor. Two long pontoons, one each side, with provision to walk around the outside, for tying up, casting off, repelling boarders, etc. Or flat bottomed, with paddle wheels. Maybe a reiforced roof, for sunbaking. Watch the weight, though. Might need a river pilot's/master's certificate. Have you seen that houseboat at Echuca which is made from the front half of a flying boat? Dornier, I think.

i run a canoe hire business on the murray here at albury so have paddle heaps on the river but the calling has been for a trip down to promote my backpackers and canoe hire business (tax deduction ) so you had a bit of a similiar idea but will keep you posted , this is an actual picture just for you jen

Ohhh......My glasses must be clean...I can see the bricks now...:blush

David, thanks for the ACTUAL pic of the kombi boat.....just a little worried about the waves ABOVE and not BELOW the hull!!!! :duh

Does this mean that any passengers have to bail like hell the whole cruise?:jesus

...I've just had an image pop into my head (dangerous stuff!!)...... A kombi paddle steamer!!!!!! 😎

Just a thought...image.... 🙂

Thanks, David. I'd love to go cruising in that. Ideal honeymooner's jaunt. Wish I was young again. I'll pay for the petrol, etc. Let me know when it's ready. U2U or email.
Coupla questions: Will 25 hp be enough to get back against the current ? It flows pretty strong sometimes, depending on how much water is released for irrigation.
If the finished KombiBoat is overwidth ? , it's gunna cost you to have it transported by road, to the river.
Fishing rods out the side? Rear deck? Legal requirements - Portaloo? Can't wait. Wishing you happy building.
