Excuse my ignorance but if its Mac and not windows would that make much difference for what i do. Barls thats the sort of money i want to spend though. I book sounds trick!
It's not for work it's purely to plug in the wall , use the web , download pics etc , email , diary etc.
Just want one with a modem , soundcard and CD/dvd drive , something not too out of date.
I'll give Zip a call and see what they can do.
Cheers dan🙂

u wont get an awesome lap top for 1000 bucks....look in the trader...i wouldnt buy a mac but thats my preferance. they have a user interface that a new born could use but the compatability is shite!

wrong again there they have had an upgrade in the system so that they are compatable with all other systems

$ for $ i think PC will always be better value. Stability i think is about the same win XP vs OS 10 (especially if you consider how many programs and different setups you can have on a PC). Mac and PC are a lot more similar than they used to be 10 years ago. You dont have to use windows anyway, linux is a better OS.
I'd go PC because its cheaper, and there is more choice in everything - Generally is uglier though 😀
Jon
only cause window is coping mac but the software is the almost the same on the mac. but they are the same price but not the same performance cause both the g4 and new g5 is miles ahead of the same speed pc

yeah windows has been copying mac for ages 🙂 Windows kinda sux anyway. The G5 is only faster than the PC in a small selection of programs that have actually been optimised for it. Otherwise the fastest spec PC at this point in time is marginally faster. You could argue all day which is faster - and really in the big picture they are about the same. Especially seeing that the actual hardware components are usally made by the same companies.
PC is always cheaper for the same spec because there is economy of scale and there is an open market not a monopoly. Also you are not paying for a marketing campaign (unless you buy a big brand name PC) and branding.
What I like about macs is that they look sexy.

i got one mate, commodore 64 with all the good bits, shes a good 'un alright. easy to transport too...... hhahahaha

i think macs are ugly
Macs are horendusly over priced
Yes some macs are pretty good however the price is too high to bother
its easier to get someong to work on a PC (i do it all myself n e way)
whether u think so or not the majority of people have PC's and there are alot of things that arent compatable in Macs.
U can buy bits and build your own PC its not really like that with Macs
Windows sucks the only reason i use it is cause of the compatabilty and for games.......i also have slackware linux and morphix linux.

Looks like we got us a nerd-fight a' happenin'.😉
Hehe, I used to love macs, thought they were so much better than the crappy and annoying windoze rubbish (talking purely OS here, not hardware). Then I got CrapOS X, the 'new' mac OS. What a pile of crap. Needs a mega-fast computer to make it perform at less than annoying slugg-speed. Forgets settings (which I always hated about windoze). I could go on, but won't bore you too much.
Then again, I'd definately go a mac over a PC anyday, as long as I can run the good old 'classic' mac os, crashes and all (just kidding, they're not that common). Maybe I'll consider a new X-only mac one day when I'm rich.
Good luck mate.
Ha ha.. I just got your signature picture.. well done!

Just don't let him offload his 486 onto you :P
oh well, no point chatting/argue about Mac or PC ...
I can't believe this topic never ended .... I personally use both operating system ... and am a Mac user for the past 8 years... now I'm holding onto both a powerbook G4 and a desktop PC .... PC (only for games) and Mac for some work and surfing 🙂 very friendly operating system with Mac OS X ... PC is nice & very compatible especially when my school uses it, however, easy to catch virus .... over the past 8 years I never had any problems with my Mac(s) it is very rare that u'll find virus transfered to a Mac over the net .. as ppl tend to design or produce virus for PCs..
Dan, see what you can get for $1000, if anything pops up no matter a Mac deal or PC, just leave us a note, I am sure we're happy to tell u if the deal is a good one or not.
If you support PC or Mac either one please don't get Dan confused... seriously I think they're both good 🙂
tee hee nerd war!
not many viruses for linux either because thats what all the ][=][4><0Rz use as well as all the geeks.
ok one thing that i dont know if anyone can argue that mac have got wrong is the one button mouse... we have five fingers each hand what gives?? and the holy mouse wheel! best invention ever 🙂
Jon
my mac has a logitech trackball with 5 buttons and a mouse wheel so what does a pc come with as standard

Mac Mouse: design: simplicity is the main thing...
for such a "easy to use" operating system you won't need the second button, however u can use the one click as "right click" hold down "ctrl" then click the mouse you'll get the same right click function, or simply hold down the one click for a while then menue will appear (depends what software ur using) in general, thats how it works. You can always get 3rd party accessories (USB) for Mac, I tried lots of scroll wheel optical mouse on my Macs and they function normally, wheels work and right click ^^
P.S: I also use my mac for my iPod which is great, I know apple released PC version of iTunes and iPod but I got a Mac ... so why not support Apple with iPod running from a Mac ^_^
iPod is for all (PC or Mac user), from apple: seriously this is something nice to bring along in trips or journeys or even connect it with your Vdub ... and listen to tunes in car 😉
Cheers~
Don.
what don said. i also use my ipod in the car
