Hey Ikube

Shannons dont offer 3rd party fire and theft.. their full comp for a 1500 semi-auto agreed value 4.5k w/ a 1600 in it was just under $700 for an 18yr old first time insurer..

i have been w/ RACV for the past year on 3rd part f/Th and its only like 240 🙂

this is in Melbourne too..

cheers

it looks like to get a decent insurance price, You have to be over 30 years old... only drive on Sundays and public holidays
- don't go over 80 KMH and Don't Drive in Capital Cities....🙂🙂

The first one is true... Over 30 years old... No Accidents... all the Insurance companies want to know You....
Under 30.... No One wants to know You, so they Put UP HUGE premiums to try to scare You away.....

SHANNONS is great if You can abide by their rules...
plus they give You Your car back if its writen off....

We have the HELBUS insured full comp with Shannons and added the Beetle just as third party everyday driver with no restrictions for an extra $122 per year.

If you are looking for just third party on one vehicle, then you will have to try some of the others. There is not just AAMI and RACV/NRMA etc There are others like GIO, Zurich, Allianz, Budget direct, Hotline. Although with my liasions with the last two companies I have not had very straight forward or easy experiences.

oh no ....... I quoted : RACV, AAMI, Shannon & they just won't insure me ...

AAMI said: 1959 1600 model doesn't not appear in their data base for insrance

RACV: Doesn't appear as well

Shannon: Modification & using as daily driver not club events ?? Also cause I'm a new driver just got my license.

What can I do now ????!!!!!

only modification: Lowered (Standard Legal)
and Empi 5 Spokes Rims

Can anyone give me siggestion ??

Uuuhh, the reason that the 1959 1600 doesnt turn up in their database is that there wasnt a 1600cc engine in the range at that time (I'm 99% sure).

Somewhere along the line, someone has put a 1600cc engine in.

Everyone please correct me if I'm wrong

yeah that sounds about right a 59 should be a 1200 cause the 1600 was the late 60s early 70s

Shannons should be able to insure you. Have you spoken to them on the phone?

hey costa is that for full comp? or third party property? Its a good price!

For engine size:

Go off your case number. if it is a F case then it is technically a 1300, H is 1500 etc. The only way someone can tell it is a 1600 is by measuring the heads/pistons. With engine displacement increase, if it is over 15% of the standard then you also need a mod plate in NSW.

Tell them it is a stock later engine in an early beetle because you cant get 1200 parts anymore.

Dont lie to the insurance company, otherwise if you get in a bind they can refuse you insurance because of this.

You could get away with saying its not lowered, that the torsion leaves and bars are "old and saggy" 😀 However if its in a crash and they spot an adjuster or something... ??? who knows. might be better to tell the truth 🙂

I guess I'll go for the other way ... say not lowered only wheels.

Thanks

ok im finding this hard to beleive as i have a 1962 baja with wide rims a worked 1600 single port and a baja kit!........now thats pretty modified and the guy on the fone from shannons didnt bat an eyelid! IM 17! i think u arent saying the right things or something (no offence intended) because shannons specialise in this kind of stuff.......RACQ wouldnt touch me as soon as i told them about the baja kit. but shannons were great. they did 3rd party but no fire and theft for 300 and something i cant remember.

I hope no insurance workers are reading this!

Yeh, that tyre/wheel arguement is shite. It IS safer to have wider tyres coz you can stop faster, but they In-shit-rance companies will argue that it means you can corner faster too... its funny that 30+ year old cars are bound to the same speed limits as modern cars, but are also expected to stop as quick as they are.. on 165 15R's no less....

sorry for bitchin...

I went with RACV, i'm 24 and have 225's on the back and 'a 1200' motor. It is a 1200 but the later 40HP one.. thye said thats cool and i gave them about $240 and went on my merry way... AAMI didnt have any beetle's prior to 57 or something...

My daughter works for AAMI...and does all their major motor claims now

Since she's been with them she's always said go Shannons for classic cars like ours...

Which is something I should do very soon now Bel is at the stage she is....

Honestly the others have no idea about what they're looking at with the vintages like ours...and absolutely don't understand the work and quality that is in them..They just look at a chart of years and value taking into account depreciation etc....They are for the average everyday driver (not meaning restored daily driver!!)

If you look under shannons policies it says that in the first year there is no obligation on your behalf to tell them anything about the car unless they specifically ask. I told them everything anyway. And got fully comp no worries.
