Whos got the latest copy of Volksworld?
If you dont have it, turn off the computer and run down and get it!
It got a MAD squareback, with 993 running gear, an artical on 3 awesome ratrods plus a full report on the volksworld show!
ts the best one in a long time.
i just checked it out and agree totally
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
One man's junk...
i like the comment about how much he spent on it!
"lets just say that i could have a gt3, but every fucker in Le Mans has one of them!"
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs
That has to be THE BEST EVER VOLKS WORLD out!!! awsome readdd. that T3 is off the show!!!
had it a while. I think that chassis set up for the square would be awesome. Does anyone know if someone in VIctoria could build one similar, and that can be registered? WOuld be very interesting.
N!
lets have a look and I will tell you !
Looking for that special lady : PM me for coffee & cake
Saw it and do admire the work and design!
However, for me personally it may have crossed the line.
Not in terms of design which is fantastic and creative but
if you read between the lines it seems that the car is barely
driveable in its current form - ie 'it needs setting up'
'softer springs in the back and more camber may help it
turn corners' ....'it won't go round bends but it does great burnouts' and similar (quoting from memory..).
Its really the function vs form debate. For me all design must be
functional and to me the vehicle falls down big time. Someone
could like to argue that its a piece of industrial art I guess...
RobK
Form, fit and function....mmmm I smell an engineer
Totally agree with you Rob,
I will go one further, this has been done by some one with a large amount of cash, because he could I suppose but to me volksies should be driven.
If you read Mike Pyes article in the same issue about trailer queens, he states that his wasnt picked as a winner because he had loads of money, but then again he is a member of the volksworld team.
All I am getting at is in England, to get your vehicle to win a show all you have to do is have tha cash to have it worked on by a select few, i.e Paintbox, Terrys, Newbury, all these advertise and are friends of the volksworld team.
Call me Mr skeptic, .
Brian Burrows states that anyone can have a GT3!, but if I had the cash I would rather buy a GT3 than have an old square back that cant go round corners or be driven????
But at least he bought a trophy,
Let the Games begin
Cheers
Dave
I Disagree,
Brian Burrows Square was finished hours before the Volksworld show and trailered there to be shown. That car has custom made everything so it is hardly surprising that the suspension set up wasn't perfect from the start. How much time and money do Holden, Ford etc spend getting there new models ready for the public? I read on VZi last week that he had the car on a rolling road /dyno to get it set up better and I would imagine that given a couple of months it will all be sorted. BB regularly takes all of his cars up the strip and out on the road and i wouldn't imagine the square will be any different.
As far as winning shows go, you are right that a lot of the cars that win the shows are built by the big names but they only get to have big names because they are the best at what they do. Would you rather see average cars winning shows because the owner tried hard but wasn't quite up to the task? Whether or not the owner has put the time into every aspect of the build or not is irrelevant. There is a very good chance that they have worked weekend overtime, not gone to the pub, on holiday etc to pay for it. The hours have been put in somwhere whether they have been lying on the floor polishing the gearbox ribs or selling sausages in Coles.
Even though Mike Pyes car won a trophy it wasn't entered in the show but was picked for the sponsors award by The Paintbox and Prosign (I think!) and I don't actually believ it had anything to do with his Volksworld connection but more to do with the fact that the owners of those two companies are hot rodders at heart.
None of the above is meant to imply that I don't appreciate owner built cars that aren't necessarily perfect but when I pay for a mag I want to read about the the best/most inspired cars around.
Cheers
Chris
Roofracks are for plumbers!
I agree with Chris. It takes time shit load of money and sacrifice to build a showstopper. But Volksworld hasnt been the same since Paul Knight left.I dont buy it anymore unless its got atleast one mad ride.
I say each to his own. You build what you have budget for (and then some). I personally think it is a work of art and ingenuity. "What's old is new again".
Although I would never farm out all work elsewhere as I get most of my kicks out of making it myself. (I just finished a handmade dual Dellorto linkage in stainless and ally with roller bearings... cost me 15 hours labor and $100 in materials. I could have bought a hex bar linkage cheaper but thats the point!).
If we put down cars like this we will all end up driving Cal Lookers with Empi 8s and the same color.

Got it today. Yet to really read it, but skipped through. Jury is still out.
Agree with Damo. Most of the cool rides left Volksworld when Paul Knight did, and they can now be found in Ultra VW.. And before the criticism.. I did say MOST. This month has an exception or two by the look of it.
THE LOWEST WITH THE MOSTEST BLING BLING WINS!!
My fave is this wicked wicked wicked ride.
Wait till you see August issue, 2 aussie features.

Just got the summer issue, just to cool and sprintstars everywhere.
SORRY BOUT THAT!
G'day fellahs!
Nice site! :thumb
Thanks for the kind words about the Square . . . appreciated 😉
Just so's you know . . . it's all 'set up' now (the car was only finished on the morning of the VolksWorld Show) . . . and goes like f*ck!!! :thumb
Please don't assume it doesn't perform or 'drive' well . . .
The corner weights etc. are spot on 😉
I had 153mph out of it on a Rolling Road/Dyno recently . . .
Here's the sheets, hope you can make sense of them:
I also ran a 13-second quarter on the same dyno . . . although I'll get that 'down' with a bit of practice 😉
Just to clarify . . . I actually DID work on the car myself . . . a bit more than the feature suggests 😉
I'm driving it to London Volksfest (UK Show) this weekend . . . can't wait 😎
Love and peace guys
Brian

Just spotted this . . .
Liverpool fan eh? Me too
😉
For the record . . .
1) Neither Bernard Newbury nor the Paintbox have EVER worked on a car of mine . . .
2) All the cash in the world doesn't mean squat without
vision
3) ALL my cars are
driven . . . HARD
4) It goes round corners real good
😉
5) I already got enough Porsches . . . including RSs and a GT2
😉
You obviously don't know me (nor me, you) . . . but please don't be so quick to
judge . . . I defend your right to hold whatever opinions you choose fellah . . . but I created that car out of a passionate enthusiasm for the air-cooled VW Scene . . . suggesting I 'bought' a trophy is insulting
🙁
Have a nice day
😉

All that work and only 180hp!:P

I'll upload some 'build pics' on Sunday (tomorrow) evening (UK time
😉) . . .
I'm just about to leave (in the Square) for a show
😉

Gotta agree with BB on that one !
He hasnt followed the norm he has created a totaly new form !
some ppl take it a few steps further and make a sweet car that they are happy with, but you have gone absoloutly mad and blown everyting out the window and made a new benchmark.
Gotta be proud !
If I had the money I`d be doing exacly the same as you BB. I really do admire your car(s) and your contribution to the UK Vee Dub scene.
Being a Pom myself and attending many shows since the early 90`s up until 2001 when I moved here, shows like Bug Jam owe what they are today to people such as yourself.
However I don`t know whether I agree with some aspects of the article in Volksworld. Yeah you`ve got the money to build a car like this and if I had the money I`d be doing exactly the same thing, I just don`t like the
"I`m especially proud of my Bumpers, I went for carbon because nobody else can" attitude.
Fuck man, just wait til I win the Lotto, I`ll be pissin all over ya in my Carbon Barndoor Deluxe with W12 motor!!
Cheers
Graham.
Brian
Yes it is my opinion and was not a personal attack on you.
I know you have done a hell of a lot for the VW scene in England, with volkszone and the shows etc.
As you stated the article did imply that you didnt do anything on the vehicle.
The feature also implied that the vehicle wasnt really roadworthy at the show , How can it get best of show if it cant be driven?
My main point of my post was that in England it is very clicky and you really have to be in with the "in group" to win anything.
I personally dont like shows for the fact that other people judge your vehicle, who's to say that these "judges" havent got a motive for a certain vehicle to win!
Shows are great to get ideas, and the world would be a bad place if we were all the same.
Keep up the good work and you are the first one to make comment of the liver bird.
Cheers
Dave
I have to agree with Brian and Chris on this one. Yes it's nice to see a new GT3 on the street but wouldn't you rather see an off the wall Volksie like this?
If I had the cash I'd love to do the same. Even if it's not your style you have to admire the quality and attention to detail. These are qualities all our cars can have if we have the patience and dedication, it takes more than big dollars (though it does help). It doesn't matter if the car is stock or modified, it's the attention to detail that makes the difference.
How many times have you seen a cool ride and gone up for a closer look only to be disapointed?
Detail, detail,detail.........
Here endeth the lesson....😎
I think i appreciate people who work harder for their stuff then the ones who get everything on a platter. It took me 60hrs aweek 7 days working and still find time to build my racecar at a 160 grand and doing it in 8years of and on.All the hard work is starting to pay of winning at 4 streetmachine shows and beating top class show winners.Always winning Best Engineer and Top Supercomp and Presentation look that comes from ASMF jugges.I also think you work hard enought you should have anything you want as long you do it at a 110% its not easy but hard work will give you the best thats my motto and its paying of with sponsors. I hope this dosent sound to hard core,WILL SOMEBODY GIVE ME A GT3PORSCHE CUP CAR PLEASE seeya.Luv the MagJVLRacing

Not sure if that was
aimed at me??? I hope not . . . on a 'platter'?
I'm a Council House kid from Everton Valley . . . just worked hard is all . . .
Anyhows . . . no matter . . .
Build-up shots as requested
😉

Brian
PS: It WAS roadworthy at Sandown . . . AND to suggest it 'won' because I'm part of some 'in-crowd' is not only insulting to the judges but to the workmanship on the car. Fact is . . . it was the most 'out there' car at the show. End of
argument.
😉
