I ned to buy all new brake parts for my Country Buggy (Kombi brakes) - wheel cylinders, hoses, hard chassis lines, master cylinder. I have got a price on (I think) Varga (made in Brazil) components. What are people's experiences with teh quality of these parts? Should I try and track down another brand? (if I can find) Is there 'german' parts still available?

You could send emails to VW shops.

I can;t comment on Brazillian brake parts as I have never used them... But thay can't be as bad as the guards & bumpers etc from Brazil... Brake parts would probably be made by subsidiaries of the German companies....
and they MUST still work OK.... here are a few to try:

volksworld@iprimus.com.au Brisbane
mick@mickmotors.com.au Brisbane ++Recommended
sales@hardingeuropean.com QLD
H & M Ferman 0295332722 Sydney
chris@volkspower.com.au Victoria
Wolfsburg Automotive 0393703100 Victoria
Volkshome 0394640366 Victoria

Try Import Advantage : sales@importadvantage.com.au

they are located in Brisbane.. I have always received good quality European parts from them....

Best of Luck..

If you still have all your old wheel cylinders etc why not get them resleeved in stainless??? You only need to do it once and it lasts pretty much 4 eva. Getting this done would/should not cost more than getting new stuff and it is better (imho). All my stuff is stainless and I've never had problems with it. Just a thought.....:duh If you have all your old lines you can take them to most brake repairers and get them to custom make the lines. The metal lines on my Manx cost me $50 and the hoses were $25 each. Was worth it and CHEAP!!

I have heard from someone that when he tightened one of the bolts on a brazilian caliper the casting cracked. The casting finish on them when new is pretty rough compared to the original german units.

On the flipside, many people have been using the brazilian calipers with no trouble for years and years.

I just got some german units rebuilt for my car.

VW Cool, how about filling in Your profile so We know where You are located... Makes it so much easier...

I also had My Master cylinder resleeved with a stainless steel sleeve and a new kit put in it at Hal Rays brake reconditioners 0266214029

Not many places do it....

68 Auto: Thanks for that email list: I will keep it for future reference!
Yep, I will be replacing all hard lines. I think I'll just buy German and be done with it... Thanks all
