i like the new golf...specially the diesel one! My family is thinking of trading in the '96 passat for one... but have to wait until we can have a closer look at the new golf 🙂

MkV R32 and GTI not due in Australia til at least Sept 2005.

MkIV shape is a bit sexier, but the V is growing on me. Off to the launch in Canberra tomorrow night. If I really like it, I will prolly pick up one next year. I would love to see the next gen Bora, though... MkV is reputedly quite the drivers car compared with the IV, and the quality is still there...

Steve. Classic 85 Mk2 2dr GTI 8v Optioned sunroof and 15"BBS RS alloys. Koni yellow and H&R, Balanced bottom end, flowed top end, Neuspeed 268 cam.

From what i've read (and seen), a few people have said to me that the 3.2L 'boomy' engine can get a bit tiresome...personally...i just think it needs a bigger exhaust.

Well, i bought a Mk IV a few months ago and yes it is one of the nicest cars i have driven. Yeah - i reckon the Mk V is a bit softer in looks, which i dont like but maybe that will grow on me.
I read in Drive last week?? that the turbo diesle was like 3.6L/100kms and pretty fast to boot!

Maybe in a year or two i will trade up for the Mrs

yeah the turbo diesel got a pretty good write up in both the Herald and the Age...though they differ in fuel consumption figures (3.6 or 5. something/100km) we own a '83 diesel golf so considering its time to upgrade 🙂

bertie_beetle wrote:I reckon the new Golf looks like the new Corrola. Sorry, thats probably very insulting to many Golf owners.

I thought that the front end looked very similar to an earlier (circa 1996 - 97) Honda Civic with the bigger head lights. I have only seen the new golf as I drove past the local VW dealership, looks pretty nice. I have got an invitation in the mail the other day to go and test drive one, might take them up on their offer, although seeing that I have not long bought a new bug I hope that they don't expect me to buy the golf ! I am not good at saying no !!!
