now i know that all of us at time to time have done things we would regret in a dub. and the best way to cure anger is to let it all out. so come on. what's yours?
me? well, a couple of things. january a couple of years ago my motor was just rebuilt. one sunny saturday, me a mate and my old man put in the engine. we take it for a drive (off road). i get to be a bit much of a rally driver and pull a handbrake turn. halfway around, the back wheels dig in (damn motor) and over the bugger (no pun) goes. snap one of the ends of the gearbox. lucky me my mate and the dog all walk away, but the drivers side door wouldn't open. the same day my motor was put in... 🙁

The purple beetle I used to own caused me quite an amount of anxiety at different times, but after some thought I think this story is definitely the winner....or is that loser.🙁

On the way home from the city one day the generator nut came off. I left the car by the side of the road and, through a number of detours, drove it home minus fanbelt with Liz (my wife) following in our other car.

We had to stop for fuel and when we went to start the beetle again, it wouldn't go. Ok I thought a simple push start. We had to go back wards so liz pushed on the drivers windscreen pillar, I hopped in pushed back with my leg and....Closed the door....
On her little finger......:cry

The finger was badly crushed, bleeding profusely and something white sticking out of it (turned out it was the base of the nail but it looked like bone). I then had to park the car while she was becoming hysterical up the other end of the servo and dancing around waving her finger in the air.

I told her to get in the $%&# car and dragged her off to the local hospital where she was kept over night for micro-surgery. We bairly made it to my bro's engagment party and I had to wash up for 10 (insert swear word here)ing weeks. :cussing
I hate washing up!

The amazing thing was she wouldn't let me sell coz she liked the colour...women eh, go figure?:o

pete, thank you for your wonderful story. I'll just go and clean up the pile of vomit that now sits on the floor next to me.

when I was young and stupid and not such a good driver yet i was following a backhoe and got impatiant and thought I would overtake him an the inside which was dirt and as i get beside him theres a raised driveway in my way and going over that it ripped off my muffler.
it made for a very noisy trip home
Or the time I was driving some friends somewhere and I had a very bad case of flatulance and not just one but continious farts. As they didnt bother me so i wouldnt stop the guys still talk about that trip to this day whenever I mention vw's

I have done many silly things in my vw's .I blew the gearbox in my girlfreinds 61 drag racing an xu-1 , I launched it a bit too hard and bang first gear was gone! Had to limp it home in second listening to the gearbox grind all the way.
I was doing a bit of grass rallying in my 58 when i saw a bit of tall grass in front ,so i thought i'd just go over it .When i hit it there was a huge crash and the car launched into the air. When i got out and looked at the car i had ripped off the jack point and put a big dint in the floor .looking in the long grass i saw a manhole sticking about half a foot out of the ground.
And a couple of weeks ago i was running late for work ,jumped in the car and started it.It was in gear and i ran into the volvo that was parked in front.
Stay tuned i'm sure i'll think of some more.

flipping one on its side and hitting a guard rail at about 80-90 kmh closely followed by dropping a piston at 110kmh.

i was gonna have a big story time, but my comp froze and i'm not gonna type it all again. So let me just say I turned my baja into a boat in a flooded creek, ran into a supporting post for a house, and got airborne into Eli Creek doing 90ks on Fraser.

For about two hours I thought the worst thing I'd ever done to my Dub is to buy it in the first place. We bought it in Terrigal so there was a good hour and a half drive ahead of us to get home. The bloody thing broke down twice just as we'd got onto the F3.

For ages we couldn't work out what the hell was wrong. Eventually we worked out that the fuel filter was so clogged full of junk that it was completely black. Fortunately we had tools in our other car so we punched a hole in it, flipped it over and caned it all the way home.

Going fishing in a mates Bay panel with three on board and 2 seats. My mate tried to get it sideways around a dirt corner, got it sideways, over corrected, swung back the other way, and fell over and slid to a halt on its side.

I was in the back without a belt, but managed to jump in the air as it was going over, thus keeping my body vertical to the ground, not the floor of the bus. I landed on my feet on the door relatively safely, and nothing loose in the back hit me on the head, like a bed or fishing boxes or eskis or fire extinguishers.... I did however manage to land barefoot on a fork which had hit the door a milisecond before my feet, and the prongs went up inside my heel. Ouch. Just my luck...

well i have three answers

1- this time the seat broke and the two of us ended up.... with clothes everywhere and coppers knocking on the window.

but for accidents and stuff

- spun and took the nose of the bug at a hillclimb, think of just squashingt eh front 4 inches of a super bug against a flat rock wall.

-worst non bug one, melted a piston and broke the water pump, also put a whole in teh block in a escort, that the gf at that time owned on the way to race track at the time. my excuse, i don't undersatnd why you need water in a car?

Thought of another one . On my way to Nambucca I was coming down the taree bypass when i had the great idea of wanting to see how fast I could get my 72 dual cab.I must have got to about 145km/h when the retread flew off the front right wheel .It swerved all over the road and i managed to pull it up whithout hitting anything.
That was some scary s@#t

I'd have to say getting caught in hail (about pea size) while just out of town driving the buggy (no roof) was not a nice experience... Rain I don't mind so much, but hail, with no sunnies and a low windscreen, is no laughing matter. (ouch on the eyeballs)

Breaking down on top of the Westgate Bridge after spending 3.5k on a brand new motor at a reputable motor builder in Melbourne. I was lucky that I was just over half way so I cruised down. I missed my first day of work at my current job the day after cause I got home at 3am. F@#Kn pissed me right off.... They basically told me to "limp it back to the work shop" so they could have a look. Yeah right, I was running on 3 cylinders, I wasnt driving it like that for 25 klms....

Going about 40 around a raoundabout it was wet, slid the arse to the left, but would have ended up in a pole, and i couldnt steer into it so i kicked it back into 2nd and dumped it spun it a 180 the other way hit and jumped the gutter (never realised the benefits of driving paddockbashers untill then hehe)

took out a rim but no other damage thank christ, replaced the gearbox less than a month beforehand.

MY father was ex army, very particular, methodical & stern to say the least-you wouldn't argue with him or talk back etc.
If we were going on a long trip we would always leave about 4.30am
The night before he would clean the windows inside & out until they were spotless, It must have been late in 1960, I was about 4 yrs old & we off to Melbourne. I wandered down to the garage ahead of dad to get in to the car to see the twins, put in the car a little earlier, happliy writing all over the inside of the rear side windows with soggy teething rusks. I don't remember much more other than deciding to run back up to the house- our departure was somewhat delayed & I am still traumatised.
Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54

Hmm..... which one to chose???
Buying one?? Just kidding :P

I suppose one that stands out is taking a full load (very heavy) in Andy out to a block of land. It had been raining the previous week, 100m short of the shed I was heading to Andy sank just short of the axles front/rear in freshly turned soil.
Took a few hours to get Andy out, after unloading him where he was first, and getting covered in mud knee deep.

Going back a long time now........first I fell asleep at the wheel of my dads 76' passat on the way to work one morning (quiet country road),I was woken up suddenly by my father who must have been drousy as well and swerved across the road at 100kph but passats handle pretty well and I managed to keep the wheels on the ground but I wasn't ready for the ditch that we hit at about 90kph sideways on the other side. As far as crashes go I'd defininately recomend a rollover with a double twist in the air before landing on the roof. If it was the olympics for cool car crashes I would have taken gold forsure! My father will NEVER let me live it down. It was his pride and joy. Then their was a time when I was YOUNG AND STUPID when I used to street race my TS passat against 253 kingswoods and datto 1600's. This one time I was flying down a winding road overtaking my rival in his t18 toyota when I finally broke the limits of my not so flash tyres and did a massive oversteer 720 spin ending only inches away from a power pole backwards. The freekiest part was seeing the other guys face during the start of the spin and the small particles of rubber flying in the open window while shitting my self . Hello jelly legs.:jesus
