Was working doggo last night (2am start), couple of km from work, in the middle of nowhere, half asleep and doing a 100km/hr when the D/Cab let out a large bang followed but some serious sounding death rattles.

Didn’t know what to do and after a quick check of the idiot lights, which were all still out, decided I wasn’t going to stop now so I pressed on to work.

Had a quick check when I finally got to work but in the dark I was just wasting my time. Went out in the morning half expecting to find something terminal but found instead an unexpected surprise!!

On the underside of the removable wooden engine cover (in the tray) is a thin metal sheet thingy….. it had fallen off and was banging around making all the noise. Can’t tell you what a relief it was, that it was nothing major, especially after you’ve been up all night and all you want to do is crawl into bed.

BUT

After I removed the offending piece of hardware and knockoff time had just passed, jumped into the old girl for the trip home…… and it wouldn’t start…… turned the key, got all the lights but no starter motor….. #$%^&*(% frigging Volkswagens @#$^&&** Of course the usual stuff goes through your mind, dead battery, solenoid, starter motor … big coincidence that the sheet should work loose and the car not start.

I just wanted to get home so I enlisted a couple of blokes to see if I could push start it, which it did without any drama. Home and parked it in the garage with the view that I wasn’t going to go near it until I’d atleast had a sleep, which is a really stupid thing to do anyway cause how can you sleep when your minds going over all the possibilities.

Got the better of me after about half an hour and thought I’m not going to climb under it, just too knackered, and the battery is less than 12 months old, I might just check the ignition switch at least I feel like I’m doing something… you got it ................loose wire…...........

Enough from me. I’m going to bed a happy camper! 🙂
