This one is Dodge. It is a 2 door a swell as a left hooker. You can just see the steering wheel. I will have to have a go at the photographer fo lack of detail...

There were about 10 Valiants on the cruise. The one with the cat's eye tail lights is an "R" type. Only about 1100 sold in Australia. I checked and it definitely wasn't welded in tail lights.. The ppl who owned them were all great to chat with and have a barbie with as well. They are more into restoring their cars back to as near as original as possible. When I said we have days where we get a coupla hundred cars of all types of VW they were astounded. I told em about Valla and they had to sit down for a moment...I think a couple of them a coming to the DOVW. I don't expect any converts but they will have a good time I reckon.

you know me and my mind full of holes ......

I could have introduced you to the new man in my life ...... But then again it may be too early in the relationship for introductions, he is not house broken yet and would probably pee on the leather seats !

yep they have every reason to be proud of their cars...
the burgundy one was sweet and the lemon yellow one was a bit sweeter.
a couple of them had even been LOWERED...only about 2 inches though.
The "R" was a manual. It had the strangest lookin floorshift I have seen in a while. I will try my brother and see if he has got a pic of it somewhere.

Some classic metal in those shots.I started my working life on Valiants and still have a VF 6 cyl.Regal thats only done 60,000 miles from new. Did the R series have the gear shift on the floor? I seem to remember looking at one years ago and they had to do some weird alterations to get the gear lever closer to the driver for R.H.drive. I think the gear change arms were on the LH side of the gear box and I reckon there was something different about the clutch set up as well. They were probably available in the States with a column gear change, with the lever on the right for right hand operation, but for us there would not be enough room for lever between the column and the drivers door. With the frantic release of them here,it was easier to fab up a floor gear shift rather than designing and building a new steering column for RH drive.I can't remember what they did with the S series for manual gear shift and the auto would have outsold them anyhow with the unique push button dash auto.Very nice motor cars.

that would explain the custom floorshift on the R. There was no room on the column as the steering wheel had the big and I mean BIG dish...typical Americana and cool I reckon. The S had a less "dishier" wheel...
